Semi-OT: Moved!

Been suffering with Webshots long enough. It's too bad, since they've had 128,000 hits for my stuff and I never minded quiet ads that stayed where they were supposed to. I'm so tempted to write to every advertiser who uses popups and aural stuff and tell them that they won't have me as a customer until they stop that nonsense.

I do hope Flickr doesn't go the same way. On the other hand, I see that they eliminate ads for their paid members--not just for the members but the members' visitors as well. And it looks like they offer support you can actually contact.

Anyway, my current stuff is there, and the other stuff will be. Do stop by when you're in the neighborhood .

It's not only websites, it's everywhere. I was so frustrated while I was watching Top Chef on Bravo last night. Sometimes the faces of people speaking were almost entirely covered by pop-up ads for Bravo's skanky housewives show. It's bad enough I have to sit through the repetitive and disgusting promos at the commercial breaks, without having the show I'm watching obstructed. I am seriously thinking of getting a DVR so I can at least cut out some of the garbage. I can't understand why the networks and cable channels don't realize that constant repetition will drive away people who otherwise might sit meekly through the six minute ad breaks -- if only the ads were at least slightly entertaining. As it is they are enough to make you run away screaming!

Amen to that, Iris! I have Dish and my receiver has a built-in DVR. I record all my fave programs to watch at *my* convenience. The remote has a button to skip ahead 30 sec. at a time. I much prefer watching tv with the remote in my hand. I never watch commercials any more- just skip thru them

30 seconds at a time. (It also has a 10 sec. 'back-up' button if I skip ahead too far!)

Looks great Heidi! And no "annoying" ads! Enjoyed looking at all your beautiful creations, and your adorable QIs. :-)

"Entertaining," now there's a concept! Are you old enough to remember the Volkswagen campaigns? or the Alka-Seltzer "no matter what shape your stomach's in"? Or "two all beef patties, special sauce, pickles, onions, lettuce, cheese on a sesame seed bun"? or "where's the beef?" ? I think it's really sad that at this point I'd appreciate a Tide or Breck commercial!

Yup. I can't remember how long it's been since we've watched anything when it's actually broadcast!

Oh yes, I remember those. Back then, there were fewer commercials, although they were generally longer. There's so much clutter now, you can hardly register what they're selling. I could live the rest of my life without seeing another drug commercial, not to mention those awful "housewives!"

Ummm...just realized how selective memory is... When you mentioned "housewives," I suddenly remembered all those commercials that portrayed the man/husband as a complete dolt. That wasn't so good

Agreed! I get so annoyed with this sort of thing. That's probably why we spend almost all of our TV watching time on PBS.
