Seven-Shirt Quilt

I decided to give that 7-shirt quilt pattern a try, and got the shirts for it! I went to the local Salvation Army store, where they have tons of shirts at very low prices, and even happened to be there on a half-price day! I actually bought 10 shirts, though, just because I wasn't entirely sure about a few. I ran them all through the washer and dryer have all on hangers spread over the shower curtain bar, and have now decided which shirts will go into the quilt and which I will either re-donate or cut up for the fabric stash. And this afternoon I'm going to begin cutting the shirts that will go into the quilt.

Well, I chose the shirts, cut them apart, added almost 100 buttons to the button box, and cut all of the pieces for the front of the quilt, including four extra 9-patches which I intended to put into the corners. Then, despite my preference for stitching everything by hand, I got out the lonely but steadfast little Featherweight and used it to stitch the top together. After I finished with the first round of sashing I decided not to bother with the "piano key" border, and called the top finished. Then I squared up all of the leftover fabrics and made the backing. As to the 4 now-orphan 9-patch blocks, I put them together 2-by-2, with 1" sashing between them, and 2" sashing all around, the sashing made from the same fabric as the center of the blocks. And I made a backing for that, too. Everything is now sandwiched (with leftover batting), basted, and ready to quilt. As to the extra piece with the 4 orphan blocks, I have decided to use that for the envelope and make the whole shebang into a quillow

-- why not?
