sewing machines vs. piano accordions

In the last couple of weeks I have twice carried large heavy objects between this village and the middle of Edinburgh. One was an old piano accordion I've just bought and the other was Marion's Janome

6500 sewing machine, going in for repairs (it's better now).

Which got me thinking. They weigh about the same; maybe the accordion is a bit heavier, it's an old and very-high-end model with about 500 reeds inside it. But accordionists just stand up and play them:

How come they don't make sewing machines you can strap on your front and walk around with?

Cuz you'd trip over the electrical cord while walking and sewing? ;-)

They probably don't make sewing machine that strap on your front to walk around with because it is to hard to do while eating chocolate/ Just a guess. Glad Marion's machine is better and you have a new toy.

I can't imagine why not - if you happen to be a contortionist! or would the the pedal be strapped to your foot?

Can't say anything funny/witty/intelligent about the sewing machines but I love the piece of music you posted. Thank you!

Interestingly I just came across this:

about an instruction book for an early kind of accordion published in 1843 by Elias Howe, Jr. The dates Doktorski gives are slightly different from those of Elias Howe, Jr., the inventor of the sewing machine, so I'm not sure if they were two different people. It would make sense for the same guy to be interested in two different kinds of complicated small machine.
