Simply Quilts is back!

I received this in my newsletter from Gammill-

Good News for Fans of "Simply Quilts"... HGTV has announced it will continue to air episodes of "Simply Quilts" Monday through Friday through the end of the year! Congratulations to everyone who participated in the campaign to keep this excellent resource for all quilters on television. It appears those cards and letters worked...at least for the time being!

You're welcome!

OK, I'm confused.

When they announced no new episodes in 2006 they said they'd air re-runs for the entire year of 2006.

Are you saying they're acting like that's a new thing or are you saying the show will continue through 2007?

You're not the only one, Marcella. BTW, Alex Anderson has a podcast now, and she hasn't mentioned any new shows.

Heck, I saw her Friday at a quilt show and she didn't mention new shows either. With that crowd you'd think she'd tell if it were true.

Sounds like the ad department at Gammill did not know the original HGTV plan included airing re-runs through December 2006 and have recently been asked about placing their ads until the end of the year. I'd say nothing has changed unless you hear an official announcement from HGTV that Simply Quilts is filming again. Something as big as reviving a show because of public demand is not going to be announced through a sponsor, no matter how big the sponsor might be.

Sadly, this little bit >OK, I'm confused.

Marcella - were you here in California last Friday? I helped hang quilts at the quilt show on Saturday morning with Alex & a group of other volunteers. No - she didn't mention her show to us either, so I'm going to venture a guess that it's just the reruns that the Gammill newsletter was talking about.

Actually, IMO we need Simply Quilts anymore. It could (should?) be replaced with a reality show about quilters who correspond on a news group .... begging fabric, drooling over chocolate, laughing, crying, getting annoyed, hugging, showing off quilts, happy dancing, basting, pre washing (or not!! ... stay tuned for the next episode!!) PLUS there could be some drama with visiting Trolls! Think this show would sell? PAT, LOL in VA

Write a sample episode and try it!! . In message , Pat in Virginia writes

Frankly, the audience would probably be about the same as for Simply Quilts, so maybe it would sell for X number of years and then no more - but at least you guys would have a quilting show again.

Then, of course, there are people who would watch any reality show, even if not interested in the "topic", so maybe you'd get a huge audience.

Ah I see! So, we're all celebrities now, are we? What fun. However, I'm *not* having any cosmetic surgery - even if I might need it >g< .

Joe Quilter

A manly man with a manly job, perhaps one laid off from a Ford factory since they could use the money, is given quilting lessons by a group of twelve contestant quilters.

Each week would focus on a different technique as we watch Joe Quilter be taught by all the contestants. At the end of each week he will show off his work and have it critiqued by the contestants. He will then select the best example of the technique from samples made by the contestants. Nobody knows who made what sample and any identifiable "signature" features or color selections are illegal. Whoever he picks gets immunity from elimination. The other contestants vote on the worst sample and whoever made it is eliminated after much hugging. The others have their representative block move up the Design Wall.

Repeat each week until there's only one left, who then shares a big cash prize with Joe Quilter. End with follow-up feature if JQ continues with his quilting on his own.

Think it'll go over? JA

Oh, absolutely, John! That's wonderful. Be sure you only tell the story to the *right* people - that idea could be stolen >g<

Yes, I live in California :-) I know, I know, you meant Livermore.

My sister and I took the machine quilting class by Jill Schumacher on Friday. Then dinner and we came back for Heidi Kassand's lecture. Alex did her intro. There was quite the dessert bar. We also went home with the new Quilt Sampler magazine and a kit of 30's fabric that In Between Stitches was selling.

I slept nearly all of Saturday, so I didn't make it back for the quilt show. We did see a cute booth of felted wool get set up though.
