Singer hand crank

I have just got my grandmothers old Singer machine. How can I find out what model of machine it is? I have the serial number off the from of the machine. I am in the UK if that makes a difference. Thank you for any help

It's easy-peasy! Singer got so many enquiries that they put them on their web site, which is great for us old sewing machine lovers. :) You just look it up here:

When you find out, do tell us more. We love to hear about machines, old and new. I have 3 hand cranks (Singer 28, Singer 66, and Jones Family CS) and a couple of treadles as well as all the electric models... :) Posting pix somewhere would also be lovely.

For years quilters thought these hand crank machines were useless. Now those who foundation piece have found a special use for them. Many electric machines make one or two more stitches after you lift your foot off the pedal. With a hand crank machine you have perfect control of when the machine starts and stops. Quilters who enjoy camping are also finding that these machines are great for family camping trips. You can set-up your quilt studio anywhere!

Enjoy your treasure, Susan
