size of a lap quilt?

I know it depends on the size of a person, but what is the average size of a lap quilt?

When I make them, it's for folks in wheel chairs. They tend to be close to 36" X 45".

I agree here 42-45" x 54" is the size we( Round Barn Quilters) use since we can then back it with a width of fabric x 1 1/2" yd.piece WITHOUT piecing backing, we can then put them together quite quickly. As a matter of fact we piece 6" squares randomly so we can then put 4 panels (7 x 9) together to make a twin size quilt WO border or a double with borders. If that is what you are getting at, donation or service quilts.

I usually use about 54x72 as well unless it is for my husband, then it has to be longer. Megan
