Where would one buy an old snap ruler? I've never owned anything like that , only seen one a time or two.

Don't know about old ones, but any hardware store carries metal tape measures. They aren't that expensive. Gen

At Walmart, if I remember correctly, less than $5.00 for 14'. Use a

3/4" ruler for the smaller bags; 1" ruler doubled for the tote bag closure.

Why buy one? Just go into DH's tool box and 'borrow' whatever amount of it you need.

He borrows YOUR tools when he needs them (mainly scissors) without asking, doesn't he?

Okay. Here comes the dumb question. I'm guessing that you're talking about the metal measuring tape things that husbands use. Assuming that you could confiscate one, do you put the metal tape on both sides sort of like an elastic casing? Do you put magnets somewhere to grab the tape closed or does it just snap back by itself? I've often thought that DH would really enjoy a fine measuring tape with Big markings on it. (Not to mention a level bubbly thing and probably BlueTooth sound effects.) Naturally, he'd be happy to let me have the castoff. =) Polly

Stanley Tool Works, makes refills for their own tape measures, (as they do break and wear out). They should be available from a "Good local hardware store", by having them order some from their wholesale supplier. If you get a long one, then you can cut it up into various lengths for various sized bags, and the price is therefore spread out over a number of projects. I have a spare one that I keep in my tool box for those inconvenient times when my tape measure does give up the ghost, (about every ten years or so). Now that is what I call being prepared. John

Yeah, and now I've run into my eternal problem. I bought a new tape this morning and how am I supposed to rip it apart when it's brand new, I ask you?

This is why my closet is full of flannel shirts that I bought at Goodwill for a rag quilt and wool jackets and skirts that don't fit anybody that I was going to felt for appliqué. There's nothing wrong with them and I can't take the scissors to them.

I am going to try to trade DH for an old used tape when he gets home.

Scissors. No mercy. You bought it; it's yours to do as you wish.

However, not your good scissors. And don't let the tape slurp back into the case or you will need a teeny tiny screw driver to take the case apart to get it out. j

LOL Atta girl, Pat. Of course, we don't know just how worthless Cindy's DH may be. Polly

Now you just get on over here and clean the coffee off my new flat panel monitor, Missy!

That's the funniest one I've heard in awhile.

Just get a retractable steel tape measure at your hardware store. New is fine. Pat
