Speaking of latest projects...

What are you working on?

Currently on my list:

1) just finished a baby quilt & pillow set 2) working on blocks for mini-swap (3" finished) - have 10 done... need 10 more... and then need 20 siggie blocks (also 3") 3) need to start (and finish) a wedding quilt - doing DWR in blues with white background. Wedding is Aug 6 -- need to have to my long arm quilter (who does SUPERB work) by early June! 4) I'm teaching my first quilt class ever in May -- paper piecing -- and I'm working on a number of little small projects to display in the shop (need to get those up ASAP) to promote the class. 5) have an OSU buckeye wallhanging to do for my cousin. I am actually an OSU alum - he isn't but is a die hard fan. Since I moved to Michigan and DH started working for "that other school" -- he razzes me all year -- but especially in football season. The wallhanging will have Scarlet and Gray piecing -- but the quilting will have hidden in it -- GO BLUE... and other similar content!

that's it... that's enough!!

Now -- what are you working on?

Working-on working on? Or, what's in your sewing room glaring at you while you try to avoid it?

I'm currently working on a Jar quilt. This is done as a sample to show my Block Party particpants, but is for me and will hang in my kitchen above the door to the pantry. (Thanks to all for your suggestions!)

I just finished an Easter postcard for my mom, and I wish I'd remembered to scan it before mailing!

Giles' quilt is sitting on the machine, pouting because I keep ignoring it.

And I'm sure I'm going to lose the pieces I've cut for my very own bed quilt before I start working on it.

Still collecting for a couch quilt, and waiting for ... I dunno what... to start a sick kids' quilt. You know, to snuggle under when a kid is sick - highly washable, and brightly colored.

Well, I finished up the Baby Quilt for Evan, my new nephew (Lots of embroidery on the border). Still need to quilt my DW's frog quilt top (It just sits and stares at me when I am in the sewing room). Want to do BOM but just haven't gotten motivated yet! Maybe it's because the weather has been so nice here in Indiana that I don't want to sit inside.

Looking forward to receiving a package of postcards to examine and enjoy later this week :)

Almost forgot the most important project this week. A chocolate Bilby is sitting on my desk staring at me cute as can be but by the end of the week he may not be so cute anymore :)

I'm ashamed to say it... but a Jewel Box Quilt has just been using me for catnip for the last week. Usually I can whip out something that is just 4 patches and HST out pretty dang fast.... but this one is just confusing me at every turn. I should be putting the rows together sometime today.... put a new design wall up.. I'm sure it's all the threads on the other one that were not letting me focus

"Sick Kids Quilt"... have you seen the pattern Pick Up Stick... I've seen that in brights -- looks very fun! Not sure how difficult it is to piece.... but would be a "feel better" quilt!

I have a ton on my plate right now, and it seems to be growing overnight! I *may* have 3 clients for quilts!! YEAH!! One wants to have a quilt made for her husband's 8 year anniversary in the Marines. She wants to use 2 different Marine fabrics and his cammies. Still waiting for a couple of more details before I settle on a price for it. The other works with my neighbor/friend and wants one for his mom. He knows nothing about quilts, and is a college kid. I may give him a break on price, but he has to buy all the supplies. The last wants to have a celtic cross for a friend who is being ordained. That is a big maybe project, so we'll see. I am also working on a mystery quilt with another group, a Debbie Caffrey called, "Simply an Illusion." I am working in oranges, which I have hardly ever used, and I love it!! They range from a gold-yellow to orange to a rusty red, and end in a brown and a black. I'll post pics of the fabrics to my webshots. I also need to finish my Starry night blocks!! And finish the butterfly for the aforementioned neighbor/friend. It's the same pattern as for the twins, but with 12 butterflies and a lattice block in between. But I have till Christmas for that one. Okay, think that's it....lol Toni

I'm still working on a 30s repro BOM from my LQS, and a black and brights whirligig for one of my nieces, but neither of these projects is pressing. I've been teaching a friend to quilt, it's kinda fun being the teacher for a change.

I've absolutely fallen in love with a quilt I found last night in quilterscache.com It's the Storm at Sea pieced. On the bottom of page

3 in the directions are a few links to finished quilts using this pattern. Look at the very last one. It is a SOS done in purples that has a cross in it. Stunning! I never realized that by accentuating certain colors, that a crucifix would appear. I think that this pattern would be a real stretch for me, but I now have a new obsession. I think it would be incredible in batiks. If so inclined, please look it up and tell me if you think an advanced beginner could do it. Are these SOS blocks as hard to do as they look?

I have a huge pile and I was laid up long enough that I'm not sure where to start. In no particular order the projects sitting around are:

1) A half-finished shirt for DH (first real garment I've attempted in in many, many years) 2) Tops that need to be sandwiched and quilted:

a)Irish chain top b) old Irish chain top of one of the boys -- old batting and ratty old backing are removed and the top repaired c) Celtic knotwork top d) Mystery fat quarter lap quilt top

3) Top that needs to be finished (BOM blocks were completed but set aside):

a) Thimbleberries Sunset

4) BOM blocks that need to be completed:

a) LQS Civil War BOM -- October, November, December b) LQS Country BOM -- December (finished November last night, yay) c) RCTQ BOM -- both pieced and applique, October, November, December, January d) New LQS BOM for 2006, Star Brite -- January, February, March, April (I just picked those up this week)

5) Planned projects (most with fabric set aside)

a) The Really Green Quilt for my 8-yr-old godson b) small dog bed quilt for Rommi c) quilted crate cover for Rommi d) memorial quilt to Wellington e) black and white quilt f) Jinny Beyer's Mayflowers (bought the pattern and had some of the fabric collected) g) crocodile wallhanging

6) Make a real stab at learning Electric Quilt 5, which I bought right before the pain got to be crippling so I never really played with it

Uhhhhhhh I think maybe I should finish something before starting anything else. Just a thought. :-D

NOTHING!!! and it actually feels kind of good . I just finished the 3rd and last robe that was needed for the church Easter Cantata - they gave me a week to do them and i finished them in 2 days...woohoo!!

I have 3 PP blocks that I would like to get done by the end of this week for our pastor, but not sure that is going to happen. Can start on karate teachers baby quilt, but baby isn't due until August, and baby shower isn't until June. Could finish Mom and Dads quilt, but they are thinking that they will be getting a King size bed, which would mean a King size quilt, instead of the queen size that I was planning on.

Guess I need to just pick something and get to work, huh??

Larisa

possible options:

-PP blocks for wall-hanging

-PP baby quilt

-duvet cover for DS

-finish Mom and Dads quilt

-pick something from apparel closet and start on that

Any votes??

Starry starry night swap, birthday block swap, basted autumn leaves quilt and will start quilting tonight, crib quilt for DGS Dylan (he's 3 months already), RCTQ BOM, 2 Chanukah quilts, and have fabric pulled for 2 more tops. That enough?

That is an interesting pattern. I'm not much for patterns, tho. I'd rather make it up as I go... I have a fabric that has big blocks of bright chickens that I'm going to pair with other fun fabrics. I'll call it a chicken soup quilt. :-)

Wow. That SOS in purples is gorgeous. I didn't know the blocks would produce a cross, either. And yes, of course you can do it. It's fabric and one seam at a time, and the quilterscache directions always work for me!!

What am I working on?? Let's see....

  1. Just got home from mailing off 121 signature blocks for a Dear Jane swap. (They have to be in Indiana by Sat.)
  2. Have to finish up my part of the tax stuff for our tax guy
  3. Have a quilt in process for the Do You EQ? contest. Also have stuff and plans for a second one.
  4. Trying to get drawings done for a pattern to get tested. (Quilter's Tote Bag, and Tote Jr. The big one will hold a 24"x18" cutting mat, special pocket for a 6"x24" ruler and lots of pockets of various sorts, some zippered, some inside some outside. This tote will hold everything except your sewing machine.... including fabric and batting for probably a queen-king size quilt. Jr. will hold a 12" x 18" mat, and be proportionally smaller. )
  5. Need to get started on a challenge quilt that I have decided to enter.
  6. Mini row robins to do, and mail.
  7. Mini swap blocks to do.....I keep changing my mind on what I am going to make. Maybe a dimensional flower applique???
  8. Several other patterns to get finished up. Plus some samples to make and get pictures of.

That is all keeping me busy. Plus I need to make some clothes..... things are wearing out.

Finishing up my batik quilt, that I thought must be hand quilted (what was I thinking?) Working on baby quilts, sent off my postcards and the blocks for the mini swap. I have no RR to work on at the moment, so I might get the batik quilt done. Then I have the quilt for a raffle to do for the Rescue Squad.

That would be a relatively simple paper-pieced blocks. Nothing too terribly fancy.

and yes -- that purple one (with the cross) is gorgeous!!!

I have a bunch of tops, mostly lap size, to quilt. I got the backings ready for 7 of them yesterday. This morning, I got the batting into appropriately sized pieces, cutting up big pieces for some and sewing small pieces together for others. This afternoon, I went out on the patio and spray basted 4 of them. It was hot out there (77 degrees here today -- warm for April in Minnesota) and a bit breezy, so I figured I'd had enough of the outdoors for today. I'm fighting a cold, complicated by asthma and allergies, so don't want to spend too much time out there.

Now to clear some space and start quilting.
