Pearl Periera of P3 Designs has a similar recipe that makes a smaller amount (1/2 cup) and you make it in the microwave. It is available on her message group, which is free, but you do have to sign up for it. See message #8 on the following web page:

here is that post to that group.....

I have used spray starch for many years and it works well, but it tends to leave your seam allowances a bit stiff, making them harder to needle. I have found that Corn starch leaves the seams softer and easier to needle.

Problems - Your starch solution will last quite a long time. My students have told me that they have had problems with mold or mildue. I don't have this problem because I prep applique pieces almost everyday. So I use mine up before it gets too old. And I have been known to spill a lot!

***Please use a 16 ounce measuring cup to boil your starch to avoid boiling over.

My Starch Recipe

Pour 4 ounces of cold water into a large glass measuring cup. Add a heaping

1/4 teaspoon of corn starch and stir to dissolve. Microwave for 1 to 2 minutes until the water starts to boil. Pour into a container that you can reseal.

***Never mix your corn starch with hot water from the tap, the starch will fall out of solution and you need to continually stir the water to keep the starch from settling to the bottom of the jar.

Please let me know if you try the corn starch recipe.
