Stash bash got an early start

You can't imagine how excited I was when my niece Angie called me the other morning and we got an early start on our Stash Bash. She originally said she wouldn't be able to get here until Tuesday. What a surprise. Well she pulled all the yardage out of my primary stash cupboards and was amazed at just how much fabric there really was there. I got to sit in my computer chair and 'supervise' this time since I still have a difficult time getting up and down. After about 5 hours she had everything neatly folded and placed back on the shelves. And would you believe there is even some space in there now. Tuesday she is coming back over and we will then begin on the fat quarters and smaller pieces. Hopefully there will even be some time left over for a short quilt lesson. julia

Yepper, now if I can get her on here. She has been so busy since I set up her computer with the ng that she hasn't been able to log back in. So for now I am telling her what is going on. julia

It feels good to me too. The road to recovery is still ongoing. I am so tired of seeing one doctor or another, but it has to be done still. We are all pleased with my progress. I am hoping that I will be cleared to start driving again soon. The Physical therapist spent the last several sessions we had together working on my response times as if I were using a gas pedal and break pedal. The response time is still a bit delayed so driving is still down the road a bit. Typing helps the small motor control and I am so glad there is a spell checker or I would be out of luck for sure :). You all have no idea how much I missed all the time I was unable to be here. My strength and energy seems to increase bit by bit every day. Though this summer was shot to heck because of the infection I am already looking forward to the time next year when I can get in the lake and swim and go out on the boat. Tomorrow is my IV infusion so I will be hooked up to that all day. Fortunately even this is now down to once a month again. So you see, quilting is still the best medicine. Being laid up the way I was and looking at my stash every day and cuddling in the hug quilt that you all made for me has been the motivation that I needed to get well again. You will never know just how much everyone here has meant to me and my recovery. It is so good to be posting again. julia

Yes, I do know first hand......they have been rooting for me for the last 3 years...and I am just starting to 'see' the benefits of all the Doctoring. (Pretty bad when you see a Staff Member off 'campus' and they give you a hug and say its good to see you somewhere besides the office!)

Sounds like YOU will be able to be driving before I will. Having another back treatment this Wed and then start OT and PT again.... If this works then I'll go to a higher 'back treatment'. First one, I'm still reaping the benefits from.. And I've been sleeping under my Hug for a couple of years now.(when it's too warm it still is ON my bed) And when Mr Joe goes into hospital I have his on my bed to-----I need all the support I can get.

leaving tihs next pararagph without the ehlp of spell check Spell check adn i are really GOOD friends. i know HOW to spell, my finners don't knwo HOW to respond to teh command (neuropathy comes into t=play theer.)

Does your niece hire out? I tried to hired a friend to help me organize my stash but she wanted to talk more than organize. Most friends who want to help would think throwing out fabric was the way to help. Finding a organized quilter who understands the need to own and organize fabric would be a true treasure.

I just LOVE sorting out, boxing or shelving, and cataloguing fabric! 56 boxes of various types of fabrics in many colours and fibres, from embroidered silks to quilt batting just emptied out, sorted, bagged and folded, sorted into labelled boxes, and hoisted back into the loft, where I can now GET AT every single box, read the labels, and find my fabric in minutes rather than hours!

I now have perfectly comprehendable labels like 'Quilting cottons 1' and 'Quilting Cottons 2 - FQ's' cheek by jowel with stacks containing more esoteric stuff like 'Kate's Specials' and Garb 1 and 2!

That's as it should be. I fully expect to make my last fabric purchase the day I shuffle off, a full 50 years from now!

Largest amount of garment fabric: 12m of silk abd cotton mix satin in a perfect lilac.

Largest single piece of garment fabric: 10m of blue glazed cotton that was £1 per metre, bought for making toils, but it may be too nice...

Largest single acreage: 15m 108" wide cotton percale sheeting: ex Marks & Spencers stock, bought from a factory outlet. This may end up as a mix of quilt backings and farthingales! It's got an easy-care finish, and is very fine stuff indeed. Weighs a ton!

My quilt stash fills but three 48lt crates, and one of those is the batting box!

I you ever get the urge to visit the US please let me know. Maybe we could work something out. I have a guest room. We could pass you around the RCTQ group and you could visit much of the country working off your room and board by organizing our studios. I am very serious about this.

I already have the urge just not the $ to do so but I want to visit before I'm 40 if it's at all possible (that's just over 3 years max LOL)
