Suggestioins needed - Candy quilt block

Now it's my turn to help with a hug quilt. I've been provided with a 10" white square of fabric that I have been instructed to "decorate" with a "Candy" theme.

Any suggestions? All my brain can think of right at the moment is a candy cane and I'm sure that will be what others will think of too. So, I would like something a little different.

How about Lifesavers or a couple of big M&Ms or candy corn or chocolate kisses? I'm also thinking that several years ago someone had a quilt that had a hand-wrapped caramel appliqued on it, but that could have just been a dream.

That was my first thought too - (KISS, Stick to what you know, yadda, yadda...) Then it occured to me that there's always some kind of candy themed novelty prints at the LQSs. Some may be suitable to cut out & applique/trapuntize... Or applique something from scratch/scraps. Got any candylike decorative stitches on your SM? Sometimes fiddling with the settings (width, length, density, etc.) on a stitch can make it look like something entirely different - one may pass for some kind of candy. Embroidery designs/FME? Change the thread colors to browns, and you've got a chocolate... whatever. I guess that's all I got fer now...

If you really want to go crazy with appliqué... Do a Gingerbread house... there are lots of them around this time of year. Grab a picture... and between fusible appliqué, specialty stitches and embellishing... you could have a lot of fun!

Ribbon candy in different colors...or wrapped hard candy. Candy kisses, candy corn, Hershey bars... candy canes in different colors crossed over each other. so many possibilities.

so much fun!

Oh boy, I could have a ball with this one. First thing that came to my mind was chocolate covered cherries! Just dream of your favorite indulgence and duplicate it in fabric or thread. Have fun and tell us what you come up with and post a photo, please. Donna

m&m's!! Cut round pieces, about 2" across and scatter across the square; machine or hand appliqué. Colors should be the classic solid hues of m&m candy, of course. Instead of the m on each piece, you could write the letter of the person's name. HTH. PAT in VA/USA

Another idea: Appliqué a 'jar' of jelly beans or other favorite. P, hungry in VA

Do you remember the Necco wafers? They are (were) thin pastel circles. If time is pressing, you could do a stack (easy enough) and then toss some around. Polly

Yes, and I still can't fathom how they ever stayed in business longer than 5 minutes, unless it was one of those, "You gotta try these - they're the worst EVER!" things...

Having read people here on RCTQ being nostalgic about them I bought some last year while in the US. I have to say I agree with you on these Doc, give me UK Love Hearts any time instead, even if they now have messages such as "TEXT ME" on them....

I did a cotton candy block on my State Fair quilt. White cone with irregular rows of pink 'raggy' for the candy. People do identify it.

Necco Wafers are still available here. So, Donna, what did you decide for your candy theme block? Don't forget, if you use chocolate as a 'model' you need to send a sample to me, the Official Chocolate Taster of RCTQ!!! Grins, PAT in VA/USA
