Sylvia's Bridal Sampler

Is anyone working on Sylvia's Bridal Sampler from Elm Creek Quilts (by Jennifer Chiaverini)? Apparently, this quilt is "sweeping the quilting world" & "everyone" is working on one. I have vowed not to start anymore new projects, unless it's for a class from a teacher that doesn't live in my area and/or a workshop thru my guild, that, nine times out of ten is an out of state teacher. I'm trying to make a dent in my UFO's, but I did get sort of talked into working on Sylvia's Bridal Sampler cause it's "only one block a week". I think it's a poor man's Dear Jane quilt:) I will not be making a DJ anytime in my future.

So - I was just wondering if I had any company in RCTQ? I just joined & have 4 blocks to make if I want to be caught up with the other participants. It's a lot of paper piecing - not sure why, because so far, the 2 blocks I have made, could certainly have been made without PP, but maybe this isn't a bad thing. I am going to an Empty Spools Seminar at the end of August to spend 5 days working on a PP project - Peggy Martin is the teacher. I'll either love PP or hate it by then. (Yes, another new project - see how it happens!)

Sounds interesting. More info please, Pauline. I found pictures on webshots but couldn't connect to the website.

Saw the book at the Long Beach Quilt Show. Nope, not working on it, at least not at the present time.

first I've heard of it! Sounds interesting though, I could do with something to get my teeth into.

So, Debbi, what did you think of the show? The exhibits were very inspiring and amazing IMHO. The vendors were numerous but too close together.

The way the group I am in works, is the woman who started the group sends an email out of Friday with the block number that we should make for the week. She uses this program:

to select the week's block. I think originally she was going to have people making, for example, Block 2 G, for all the members in the group & so on, but she has now settled on everyone making their own blocks, which suits me just fine! I think this website will give you lots more information:

Many of the blocks are pretty basic, but I do see some challenging blocks in the quilt, so it may force me to actually learn something - not a bad thing! Lots of PP Mary - right down your alley. You do have to purchase the book, unless you can get it from the library. I ended up joining Craft Central & chose that as one of my free books (I only have to buy one more book in the next year). Amazon.com was out of stock, so I guess it is increasing in popularity.

I am making mine totally scrappy from my stash.

Well jump on board Debbie. I can invite you to join our group of bridesmaids. It doesn't matter if you aren't up here.

Pauline, thanks for posting this info. I found some pictures of the quilt online and it is beautifully designed.

I don't read many of the Elm Creek books, but I sure do admire Jennifer's energy and marketing skills!

I agree that it is like a Dear Jane quilt, and as with DJ, I likely will drool over it and NOT make it.

But you go girl!

I have a friend who made one when the pattern was free. It's really pretty.

Amazing quilts. Made my mouth water, except for one that was super wonky. I agree, the aisles with the vendors were awful. Made it hard to stop to even look to see if you wanted to spend any time at that particular booth because you were being shoved and pushed everytime you stopped.
