Thanks all and special thanks to Patti

As a beginning quiltmaker, I want to say thanks to everybody here at RCTQ. I have been dragging and dropping RCTQ threads of particular interest to me into a separate folder titled "Quilting" with subfolders for "Binding," "Basting," "Spray basting," Fabric marking," etc. I find that I consult these subfolders almost as often as I consult the hard copy book and magazines that I've been studying! Your responses are just as comprehensive and give MORE alternatives (including alternatives specifically geared toward my needs and tastes) than the other, general references I have on hand.

Special thanks to Patti for suggesting ribbon as a binding. I think I'm going to take your suggestion. I've decided it beats the heck out of struggling with satin to make my own binding. And it just so happens that a local, family owned shop has dozens of types and colors of ribbons to choose from. (They also have rooms full of fabric, but their cloth is expensive so I only shop there for specialty stuff.) I may have questions for you later (and for everybody else, of course).

You bet your boots, 'thanks to Patti'. She's taught us some really neat things. I think my very best favorite 'Patti' is that if you press the sashing of a block 'into' the block, it makes the block stand out a bit. Not applicable at all times but a very special touch with the many fussy cut critters that I use so frequently. You'll want a copy of her book: It is 'Geometrical Quilts' by Pat Storey. It is a treasure. So is Pat. Polly

Great scott, that is brilliant. And right on time: I am currently doodling notes for a quilt with sashing and "Interlocked Squares" patchwork to be made with some of the calico fabrics I bought a couple of days ago. (I got some really great matches of solid color and floral patterns.) This trick would certainly improve my results.

Consider it bought. Thanks for the tip.

Pat! Those 'sweet words' are very, very well deserved. You are a brilliant author with a published quilting book, you've written oodles of quilting magazine articles, as well as earned many quilt show ribbons... and you've been juried into Paducah!!! Good golly, Sis, you are an Official RCTQ Treasure.

And don't you forget it! ;-)

Oh Roberta, thank you. The fact that I know this is all truly meant and not 'flannel' is the most amazing and wonderful part.

The pieces you have made from my book are just beautiful. . In message , Roberta writes

Pat's advice and answers are the ones I watch for faithfully. Pat, I really admire you. You are an amazing person as well as an amazing quilter. What you do, and encourage us to do, is raising our craft to the level of art. Thank you, and keep it coming. LOL
