The Quilter's Apprentice

OK, this Sunday (postponed from last month) my neighborhood book club meets to discuss Jennifer Chiaverini's first book, The Quilter's Apprentice. I need discussion topic ideas!

So far, I thought of: Discuss why Sarah becomes so attached to Sylvia, especially after their rocky start. Is she a grandmother/mother substitute?

Why is Sarah so determined to find a way to save Elm Creek Manor? Why does she feel such belonging to a house she was hired to clean?

Do you recognize any personality types from the quilt group? (this may not apply - I am the only quilter in the neighborhood)

Help me out! What else can we talk about?

How about:

Why does Sylvia first come across as so bossy when deep down she is really a very caring person?

Why didn't Sylvia just hire a moving truck to pack all the family stuff in, sell the Manor, and skeedaddle?

Sylvia was trying to sell the Manor. The realtor was going to turn it into apartments for the college students. Sarah talked her out of it, mostly because of the history of the manor.
