Tooting my Horn

Six months ago my quilt guild entrusted me with the job of re-establishing = our guild's web presence. This is a project I have now been working on tog= ether with a website authoring company with an objective to bring our websi= te kicking and screaming into the 21st century. The old one was seriously = immature and was not used by our guild or the broader community (it didn't = tell us anything!). I concentrated on accessible and useful information, e= ase of use and hopefully a site which our members and visitors will access = regularly.=20 =20 champagne corks popping! The new site went live on Friday. You can check it out here:

Pages with photos are worth a look at - quilt line, challenges, biennial sh= ow.=20 It was a very interesting project and has been a good distraction for me ov= er the last month -- once I could start concentrating on things again. Now to see how it resonates with our members. I'm sure there will be lots o= f feedback, good and otherwise, and suggestions for future inclusions.

I had a quick look Bronnie. It looks simply grand. I'm so glad it helped you through the first part of recovery from your trauma. Good for you. . In message , Bronnie writes

Bronnie, You've done a wonderful job. I do echo Roberta's concern about the personal addresses being posted, though. I also thought it might be good to list only the member's first name when showing pictures of their quilts. Maybe we're a little too cautious over here!

On our guild's site, anyone can get to the general information about the guild and its calendar of activities, but to get to more "private" info such as member addresses and the guild newsletter, you have to use a password.

I didn't see the original Web site, but this one is definitely a winner!

May I ask how many members you have? And you mentioned raffling off little baskets with quilting supplies during your show. I like that idea and was curious as to what a typical basket might include. I might borrow the idea for our show.

Thanks!

You did a great job! Non-members will find it easy to get more info on how to join you and members will be able to see what others in the group have done. Something for everyone. :) Allison

Thanks Roberta. Personal addresses - are you all just talking about the president.gcqg.gmai= l...etc? We don't think this will cause any problems, I checked with our l= arge state guild president as they do the same with no issues. I do think in Australia we are open in mind and not overly concerned with p= ublishing full names of quilters etc in captions. Bronnie

You didn't need to see the old website, trust me!!!! Our guild has about 200 members with up to 120 attending our daytime monthl= y meeting. Our biennial quilt show is a great show and is held at our Arts Cultural Ce= nter on the Gold Coast. It is their most popular event and we are so lucky = that they run it for no cost over three weeks! Entry is free. We get sever= al thousand visitors. We have two raffle baskets with donated goodies from= our members, sewing knick knacks, fat quarters, patterns, small books etc.= Tickets are a dollar with it drawn on the last day (winner does not have t= o be present) and the same for the raffle quilt. Members also make tiny se= wn Christmas Tree decorations which we show on a small tree, it is really p= opular and sells out over the time with all money going to charity, around = $1000 I think. For your small weekend shows, raffles baskets would still b= e a fun thing to do. Bronnie
