Thanks for the kind words about DD, everyone. She is now looking forward to the spring semester; classes start the 22nd.
Many of you asked about Our new bird, and she is doing so well! She has definitely figured out that we're not going to eat her for supper and has calmed down considerably. She was not used to being pushed 'outside of her comfort zone' in her previous home and DH and I...well...we insist our pets 'put out' in terms of learning tricks and playing with us. One has to earn their keep in my house - LOL
She is now much more relaxed (doesn't stiffen up when we take her out of the cage), and playful. She'll pull off my glasses and preen my eyebrows (yes it feels weird). She still likes me better than DH but that may always be the case since she was raised from a chick by a woman and DH is the first guy that's handled her. Dreya is also talking much more now (she didn't say a word for a month). Yesterday morning I greeted her with a "good morning, Dreya!' to which she came right over to where I was. I scratched her head, and she put her beak around my fingers - no pinch or anything just like she was holding it - then let go and said a loud "OW!!" She did this twice...I think she has a sense of humor!
The other birds are quite aware of her - we have put Dreya on the stand with Hera, one of the cockatoos who has a real pushover personality and Dreya (who'd never seen another parrot) was quite curious in a cautious sort of way. Hera, on the other hand, just put her head down -- she just wanted to be preened :)
What can I say, our house is a zoo.
