Trying to catch up & Travel

And I just can't !! Wah!!! So I'm marking everything read. I'm sending prayers for everyone who needs them, happy dances for all the finished things, and hugs for anyone just having a bad day.

The travel part: My work is sending me to Grand Rapids, MI, USA next week, Tue-Fri. Anyone live in that area? Are there quilt shops? I won't have any daytime time, as I'll be working, probably 9-10 hrs a day, but should have some time in the evenings.

Hi TerriLee,

I don't know the Grand Rapids area very well, but I'm pretty sure they have a Field's Fabrics. I've been to the Field's in Kalamazoo and really liked it, but I'm more into garment sewing than quilting, so I can't tell you as much about the quilting fabrics. If the Grand Rapids store is as good as the Kalamazoo one, it's well worth stopping at. Their website is >

Enjoy your time in Michigan. Sorry I'm not anywhere near Grand Rapids, or I might try to meet you. I'm in the UP, where we've had a blizzard for the last two days, and it's predicted to last through the weekend.

There used to be a really nice quilt store called "Grand Quilts"...but I believe it has closed. You might want to double check though.

Thanks, Donna. I will look and see if there is a Fields Fabrics in the vicinity of where I'm staying (I won't have a car, as I hate to drive in "new" places.)

3701 Plainfield Ave NE, Grand Rapids, 49525 - (616) 364-6505 I'd call them and see what all they would recommend before I left. They show more than one of their stores in the Grand Rapids area. I can't say I've been to field's Fabrics but I have been to a couple of LQS's in GR (as it is locally called)

HTH Butterfly (who lived in GR for a few months, no, I didn't go to an LQS then: 1971, think JCPenneys' still carried fabric?? )
