Two done and more on the way

Finally I have accomplished getting some quilts to the finished stage. I made a Yellow Brick road for Grandma which was to be done for Christmas and I just mailed it out. Getting it machine quilted took time and I learned myself and rented a machine. I also finished a Jelly Roll quilt which I have had for a couple of years as a birthday gift from Mom.

Here is a link to my blog to look at them.

I have also been sewing like mad this spring break and piced a 3 x 2 embroiderd and pieced wall quilt. Last week I also finished the hand-sewing on the Baltimore blocks and pieced that top as well. I just need to layer and pin and I will be able to quilt those on my machine.

I also got a huge leap on Christmas for somebody. I don't know who yet. I had some Christmas fabric that I got years ago to make wrapping bags to use instead of paper, but then we went to other gift strategies and I didn't need to make them. Then there was another blog that I visited that had a pattern for Three Seam Pillowcases. Out came the fabric, it's all used up, and I have eight new pillowcases to gift to somebody. I'll get pictures of them in the next few days.

Until then, enjoy.

Hey Steve

Love the quilts. Your choice of panograph looks great. I'm curious about your experience with machine quilting. What machine did you use. Glad to hear you are trying machine quilting. Your loops look great. I remember the first time doing loops. I didn't follow a panograph, I did it free hand and all my loops looked like warts on a toothpick. LOL. Have fun with it.

Chris has a Nolting with a 14' frame. Stitch control, laser pointer to follow the panograph, and a few other bells and whistles.

I was pretty tense this first time, being at her house and doing this the first time and such an expensive machine, etc. There was also a bit of noise with the machine going and she played music, which I liked since that distracted me a bit from having a death-grip on the handles and trying to go too slow and be too perfect. When I could just get into the flow, much like when you type and just hit the flow and type faster than ever, things went really good. But, I still was tense, I'd eaten a late breakfast but going from noon to after 4:00 was a bit long since I last ate, so all combined, I got a one pill migrane, not two pills mind you, so that was good.

I learned a lot though, she was soooo helpful and friendly, and was more than fair in her pricing since she knocked off 30 minutes on my time charge because of tension problems that she had to adjust and solve. They are both about twin size overall. Bert is holding them up for me. I was charge $62 for the time and that included the thread.

Next time I'd really love to try a panograph with some straight lines and sharp corners to see how that feels in getting a flow going. I think that I will wait awhile before I try to stipple something though.

Thanks on the loop comment.
