update after the "meeting" with the principal

Well, my slow burn/long fuse husband is livid. He is formulating an email to the superintendent, assistant superintendent, principal, vice principal, and head of pupil services as I type this.

As we walked out of the office, his comment to me was, "next step, board of education"...and he proceeded to make comments that I wouldn't respond to.....not until we were off school grounds, anyway. Because I'm at the school quite a bit, I don't need to have them turn against me or our son, so I refused to say anything until in the sanctuary of my own car.

Needless to say, the responses were rehearsed, the expressions were blank and clueless, and there were too many times where a question was asked and when my husband went to respond, he was run over by the person who asked the question....none of the 3 basic questions that my husband brought up were even remotely addressed.

In this meeting, I let him take the lead while I took notes. I've been meeting with them and trying to deal with this for practically the entire month of February, and haven't gotten anywhere, so I tagged in my partner and he's running with it better, and surprisingly calmer than I expected.....we shall see what happens next as I've requested a meeting with the assistant superintendent (on behalf of my husband, but he and I will both be there), hopefully this Friday (since hubby already has the day off) to address this....and then we progress from there if need be.....

I have never seen a better description of how to handle things than that written by Debbi here on 2/23. That or taking an attorney with you will probably get results.

We have a meeting at the school administration building on Friday at

9am. Hubby is the one taking lead this time (again) and he wants to progress this way...at least until we see what happens on Friday. He's ready to go to the media, the state board of education and federal level if we need to.

With regards to filing charges...we tried that and were told that "I have to take into account the ages of the boys involved and the fact that the other child has no previous record"....that's the only answer we get. Tried to address a restraining order and again, got the same response. Have a local attorney on standby and may be contacting him Friday, but hubby wants to wait to see what happens at the 9am meeting.

Me...I've just got a freaking headache the size of Montana right now and am letting hubby take it from here because NOW he understands what the past month has been like for me

O YESSS! All I can add to your excellent strategy is: maintain the rage. Don't let the rehearsed waffle wear you down (I don't think you will, but I had to say it, y'know). Keep us in the loop, won't you? I think we've all got a vested interest in this one. Luck to you! ;D

Remember, it doesn't matter that there is no "previous record". On anything. Once is enough on anything like this and you and we all know this needs to stop. I think I'd be like you and need your husband too. Good to have the attorney on standby, and thinking about the media and so on.

Some other big guns, but scary ones even for you if you call them in because of the scrutiny, are the ACLU and the Souther Poverty Law Center. These two places really wake up school boards.

Hang in there. You will persevere.
