Update on DIL and grandson

I talked to Kelly today and she said the Dr is not worried at this time and that the baby is a big boy. She is 24 weeks and he is already over a lb. He told her to get to the hospital at the first pain or she will be haveing the baby in the car. So just keep praying that he keeps is little butt parked where he is till a lot closer to his due date.

15 years ago my daughter suffered a placental abruption at 24 weeks; att hattime, the doctors said they hoped to stop her labor for 2 weeks because at 26 weeks the odds were better for survival. At Texas Childrens Hospital at that time they were experimenting with a lot of new things to help extremely premature babies. My grandaughter was born at 26 1/2 weeks and while she has some developmental delays, she is a pretty amazing young lady. Today, 24 week babies face the same odds she did at 26 weeks 15 years ago. It is a hard fight, but it is winnable. If she hang on 2 weeks, your grandson will have a 90% chance of surviving with no long term problems. At 24 weeks, he has a good chance of surviving but the risk of complication is a higher. Be prepared for a longish hospital stay in Neonatal ICU, and some possibly scary times, but it is not as bad as when we were young and bearing babies. Elspeth

The Dr seems to think she will make it to at least 32 weeks. It isn't the placental abruption causeing the problem it is her muscles.
