Update to my quilty things

Well I guess I should give an update considering I've commenting again.

I've managed to make a few sets of pot holders. But my main focus right now is making a blue jean quilt. It will be a wedding gift and the wedding is Sept 5. So I really need to work hard to get this done. But as a back up plan if I run out of time I will give her a set of pot holders to open with a pic of the almost finished quilt. The bride has requested this so she knows I'm working on it. In fact she gave me some of the jeans to cut up.

Right after that I have 2 top sheets that I have to turn into bottom sheets. They are a type of micro fleece, really soft. My friend doesn't use top sheets. So when she bought two sets she sold me the top sheets for half price. So once I sew the one to a bottom sheet I'll have a complete set for one of the kids too. I love her when she buys sheets. Anyone have ideas on this? Do I actually have to measure and cut or can I just do it? I know looking for the easy way out. I'ld never consider that with quilting though....lol Thanx Joanna

know this probably wouldn't work for everybody, but I have taken thelazy way out when faced with a top sheet that I want to function as abottom sheet. At most discount stores (Wal-Mart, Target, etc) you canfind packages of little elastic clips that have strong grabby thingson both ends. Attach those kitty corner on the four corners and youhave smooth fitted sheets without cutting, sewing, fretting. The clipskeep the sheet tightly on the mattress and they come off when you wantto to wash the sheets. Sunny

My "easy way out" is that I just put the flat sheet on the mattress and tuck in the corners the old-fashioned way. They really do stay in place nicely, and are much easier to handle laundry-folding-wise.

I've heard/thought of these, but not actually seen any. I always thought it would be cool to include some squares with usable/ functioning pockets (front, back, side, bib, etc.), flies (or is it flys on jeans?), beltloops... a little of everything. Are you doing anything like that?

Lots of info on blue jeans quilts at

I have seen quilts with the jeans pockets, etc., left on. Sometimes even with a red handkerchief in the pocket.

I've only done one jeans quilt & used this method: . I used a friend's camp staff shirts for the centers, so a lot of them had camp logos or his name on them. It was a heavy quilt -- but brought a good price at the camp's auction! My quilt: . Closeup:

I like to use pockets and emblems and such. Although this pic doesn't show a lot of it you can see where I ripped the pockets off. If you want pockets then it's better to get your hands on some kids jeans. Then you can keep it square but the pocket lands inside of that.

Any yes they are fun. Only the next one I am not making a rag quilt style. I'll just be birthing it.

Here is a link to my albums.

I like it. Even the ragged-edge look that I'm not usually fond of. It works here. Thx.

If I ever did one, I'd probably just use larger squares to accommodate my larger pockets (and larger... well... y'know...). It'd be a way to recycle the boxes and drawers of jeans that no longer fit and aren't in good enough condition to donate (I wear 'em - literally - right down to the threads!)

I make my own of these. I call them sheet "suspenders". Mine cost less than what they are in stores. I use elastic & suspender clasps. They are easy to put on & remove for washing. Nana
