Very OT: Digital TV signals questions

Does anyone here know much about this conversion to digital TV? We have cable so getting to watch TV is the problem. But, for the last couple of weeks, our PBS channel (and we watch a lot of PBS!) has had the signal cut in and out sort of. The words are bit ahead or behind the picture or the picture sort of stalls (like you're downloading a video on the computer and the download hasn't caught up with playing speed). Then last night we were watching "American Experience" it was as if the sides of the picture were cut off. They'd have the names of the person they were interviewing at the bottom of the screen and part of the name was missing.

Our PBS station has been a big supporter of the switch to digital and I know they'd been working on buying the equipment etc for years. Are our 'problems" related to this switch over? Our TV is older, but not that old and we really don't want to buy a new one.

When we switched channels to Comdey Central to watch the Daily Show we didn't seem to have the same problems we did with PBS.

Our PBS stain (which is OSU) doesn't broadcast a good signal either. Must be a thing with PBS, Gen

The local signal used to go bad just before pledge drives. It seemed too predictable to be chance after a few times. Wonder who thought that up? LOL I would expect the change will cause glitches here and there also though. Taria

I think the technichal difficulties PBS stations face most often directly corelate to that most heinous of tech troubles called, being broker than the ten commandments. So sometimes it takes a few tries before they figure out which improvised bit of what needs to be jerry rigged with what toggled together piece of which in order to obtain the best effect.

Since a good many of them run low power with strategically placed repeater staions, I expect they are going to have just loads of fun working through the change over. *note facetious tone*

You're right about the station being broker than the 10 commandments. :-)

We're in a perpetual fund drive right now since our infamous former governor took all their State funding away.
