wedding gift.

On topic this time. I need to make a quilty gift for this wedding in Seattle. Has anyone any ideas as I wont have time to make a quilt. I can only come up with a table runner. I will be attending my 1st ever Shower!! we don't have showers over here! Getting excited too!

Is this Estelle speaking?!!! You could make them his and hers bags - you are a bag supremo. Perhaps his could be the right size and shape for a generic laptop? and hers could be one of your pretty ones - say the Yin Yang one? or the grab and go you made the other day. You do such great things with your bags - and they'd be totally unique. . In message , Estelle Gallagher writes

Estelle, a table runner is a great idea. Or a couple of matching place mats, or some potholders and an oven mitt or anything like that. Small items are wonderful for showers. And Custom Made is also good.

How about 2 or 4 placemats to go with the table runner, and maybe coasters as well? Edge some napkins with the focus fabric to make a whole set of table linen? One of my books suggests making a series of long buttonholes parallel to each other and then threading a length of contrasting fabric through them - I can dig our details if you like that idea?

I made placemats and napkins (set of 6 each) for step grandson's wedding last year. His wife is from China. I found some gorgeous oriental looking fabric that I used for the main fabric for the placemants and the napkins.

would a 'grab and go' made from cream and white crazy style satins be appropriate? maybe a bit over the top, eh. how about emailing the mother of the bride to find out the brides going away outfit colour to coordinate? or her favourite colour instead would be better. find out size of the grooms laptop too, assuming he has one. seems like everyone does these days, eh. tho i do like a tablerunner idea, double sided perhaps, autumn/xmas or autumn/spring colours might suit. just thinking outloud yet again, take it with a grain of salt, eh.

Martingale does offer tours of their facility. You have to book in advance & after you go on the tour, you have the opportunity to shop in their store, which, as I understand it, has some fabulous bargains, maybe slightly damaged books, remains, etc. Here is the link with the tour info on it:

I've heard great things about

Their prices on line are always good, but you can also go to their location. I've heard it can be hit or miss though, just FYI. I have had good experiences buying on-line from them. I have also purchased from

by mail order only. They print a lovely schedule every quarter & mail it out, with various kits, patterns & fabric for sale. I don't know how close you will be to Lake Oswego, OR, but you can peek at their website, to see if it is worth making a side trip to.

Quilt shops in San Francisco are few & far between. Crazy, huh? There is a fabulous fabric store, that also carries cottons in downtown San Francisco called Britex Fabrics

If you do any garment sewing at all, I highly recommend it. Do you know how many days you will be in the San Francisco Bay Area? If you have time & a car, there are many shops in the Bay Area. The one quilt shop that was in San Francisco has recently closed. I can help you out with shops in the area though. I also have my "quilt shop list" that has shops to the California/Oregon border. Let me know if you want that. (You are driving, right?)

Fabric Depot is the largest fabric store west of the Mississippi. They have every color/design of every line. I get so overwhelmed that I don't buy much unless I'm searching for something for a specific project.

The Martingale tour is great too! After the tour, you get to visit the slightly damaged book sale room. It used to be downstairs. I bought so much I could barely make it up the stairs!

There are loads of quilt shops along the I-5 corridor.....I know you will have a fabulous drive.

Happy traveling,
