What to do.

I had to make a quick dash up to my son in Kent last week.An emergency. I just found time to grab a bit of hand sewing that has been hanging around since I went to the US 2 or 3 years ago.{ Funny I forgot my BP pills ! lol} I actually finished it.It is a 2 fabric applique, you cut away the front and I needle turned the edges of the Dragonflies and rushes. I do love it, but it has a lot of washed out looking background. I wanted your opinions on how to quilt/colour/glitter this wall hanging.Of course it is purple!!It is the first one in my webshots.

Estelle, a very good friend of mine here in town made that pattern! She used some sort of fiber -- angelina, I think -- to "jazz" it up. The dragonflies' wings sparkle and just make that quilt. :)

There's a lovely soft green in the purple batik (is it?). I see that figuring in the quilting somehow? On the pale background could you find a shade or two darker than it and quilt more rushes and dragonflies (smaller scale) in that? with the green around the edges of the purple dragonflies and rushes. Then you could apply glitz of some sort onto the larger areas of the featured items? . In message , Estelle Gallagher writes

I don't know diddly about glitzing a wallhanging. Just dropped in here to say that I love your quilt. That is so beautiful. Polly

How gorgeous! I really like it! I have the perfect solution for you! I'm not good with computers, so this is the best I could do.... it's the sixth item down on this page- called "Fashion Blast Spray". I haven't used it, I do have some somewhere in this mess, but it says it's washable!

That link didn't work- darnnit! When you get to Home Sew's main page- using my messed up link- then use their search block for the word "spray". Using 'Fashion Blast Spray' for the search words won't get you to it for some strange reason. Then it will be the sixth item shown. Sheesh! I warned you that I wasn't good at this! :-/

Oh WOW, do I love that quilt!!! This is like a reverse applique, right? I have a book on that and you have totally inspired me to try something along that line. Great job Estelle.

How very elegant! I like somebody else's suggestion to use angelina. Layers of silk gauze in different colors could also work. Some thread painting, using silk yarn zigzagged into place with shiny Sulky thread (grass, veins on the wings). Maybe finish off with some diamonds and pearls. Roberta in D
