Who here knows how to price finished quilts?

There's gonna be a big estate sale here from a lady who has 3 SMs , bolts and bolts of fabric and all kinds of other quilting stuff, including finished quilts, in 2-3 weeks. I talked to the one company doing the estate sale. Just made my mouth water to think of all the stuff to be for sale. This lady has quilted all her life, and we all know what her stash must look like. Keep breathing slowly, slowly now. in, out, in, out. I can figure out what most things sjould cost at an estate sale run by a company instead of the family, but I have no idea what finished quilts should sell for. I'd like opinions now. If I find a well-made, machine pieced and quilted / binded baby quilt , in great condition, what would be a reasonable price? I understand that wear, stains, and such lower the value and very nice, even hand stitching raises the value. How bout a full size or queen size bed quilt of nice quality? How about a quilt that has won a prize at the state fair or in Houston or wherever?

I just would like opinions because I don't want to pay too much. All thoughts appreciated.

Forget it. I have looked at websites that sell quilts, and there seems to be absolutely no rhyme or reason to the pricing.

What a wonderful dilemma to be in! The value of a finished quilt has everything to do with what you intend to do with it and how much you like it.

If the quilt is well made but not something you particularly like, the only reason to buy it is because you intend to resell it on ebay or somewhere else. If that's the case, go to ebay and have a look at what similar quilts are selling for.

If you're shopping for a baby quilt as a gift for a friend, decide ahead of time how much you'd like to spend and shop in that price range.

If you adore the quilt, then forget what everyone else thinks it is worth and ask yourself if you can live without it. Even if it turns out that you could have gotten it for less, it won't matter since you love it that much.

I've sold machine made 40" x 40" baby quilts for $150.00. I've sold full size quilts for $500.00. Note that I can't count on selling at that price. That's a rarity and when I've had good luck.

I have limited experience in this matter, but I'll share what I know!

My DH and I bought a wall hanging quilt for $250 last year. Recently, we went to Lancaster County, PA, and there is a plethora of quilt shops there (lots of Amish folks). The quilts ranged in price for queen-sized from $400 up to $2500.

Go, anyway! It will all depend on how much the sellers know about the value of quilts (& fabrics, & old sewing machines). If it is an auction, it will depend on what kind of crowd they attract.
