Chalking and Coloring?

Ok, dumb question time.

Some of ya in here I see and you speak of chalking and coloring onthe same surface area. The problem I have is this, what do you do first or how do you do it? I have tried to put paint markers and gel pen markings over chalk - NOT!! It just does not mix. Then I tried the other way and it just looked awful, the paint colors were muted.

Do you use or NEED TO use a chalk fixative or wHat?

Dave...this may help with the chalking aspect

Personally, I have never mixed mediums but use one or the other. That doesn't mean that they wouldn't work you just need to experiment! I also use artist's pastels as they have stronger pigment than the available chalks and you can also paint with them using a lightly moistened brush. You can also use chalks with a VersaMark inkpad after stamping..... instead of using embossing powder apply colour with cotton wool balls or Qtips then blend using a clean cotton wool ball or makeup remover pad. Fixing is less necessary with oil pastels or the I-kan-dee chalks but a mist with a cheap hairspray seals it for cards, etc. Wouldn't use the hairspray on a scrapbook LO though....it would be better to find a acid-free sealer :o) Hope that helps and I am sure others will have ideas to share. Take care, Marilyn

What I do is the chalking first. Then Stamp the image. Then erase the chalk from inside the stamped image then I color it in with the mixed media.

you can always mask too... stamp your image, then stamp it again on a post it... cut out the shape (where you DO want chalk) and place over the image... chalk... tada!! I do this alot with using multiple ink colors... sometimes I have 3 or 4 masks if I want to use "part" of a stamped image or make it look like it was part of another image.... so they don't go over each other....

I must admit, I've never chalked and colored. *hangs head in shame* Or if I have, I don't know that I did. LOL
