I guess I should be as relentless as RJ, LOL!
I guess my first question is what is the purpose of the meeting? I guess I thought that what we really wanted was getting to know each other better. There is no way that we have time to do that, go to the zoo, visit and expo and so forth in less than two days. It is hard enough for 2 people to stay connected in an expo crowd, much less 10, 15 or more. That is why my concern was more about a place where we could get to fairly cheaply and quickly, meet up with the maximum number of people and where we could ALL stay together, i.e. rent a house or 2 and have something like a scrapbook RCS retreat! Think about it... most if not all of you are saying that you can only do a weekend. With any luck, that means fly in Friday, meet & greet before we all drop dead from travelling Friday night, talk and share the scrapbooks we managed to bring with us, have breakfast and/or have a swim and visit a scrapbook store in the afternoon where we can all buy what we need to the layout we can do in the evening about meeting each other. (perhaps that can be our Saturday night challenge)(I'll be happy to bring my mini photo printer that takes all the memory cards and provide the photo paper). By the time that's done, it will be close to time for supper. We can go out or have our recipe ladies practice on us, (I'd be happy to do the grocery shopping for them the day before). After supper we can scrap and swim and chat and perhaps take a walk in Downtown Disney or for free Celebration. With luck we can see the Disney fireworks in the evening or sit and talk by the pool or in the hot tub, and the next morning, Sunday everyone is already on their way back home! If a few people want to stay longer, then the house/villa can be rented for longer and the price will most likely go down.
I was also under the impression that we wanted to make sure that our tax refunds were in, which kind of makes the beginning of April tight for many to have their refunds in hand.
While you can expect the temperature in Ohio at the beginning or April to be about 50F and rainy, the temperature in and around Orlando will be in the
60/84 and sunny in April and 67/89 in May. (That is the average overnight low and the average afternoon high) May is a cheaper rental month and perhaps the trip can be part of your Mother's day present! We can meet the weekend AFTER mother's day and before Memorial Day!OK, so you may have to share a room... with twin beds. But where else can we have a two night stay, with heated pool and spa, room to crop, a kitchen etc be available to you tax included for about $20/30 a night? In either Ohio or Atlanta, most of us would have to stay in hotels and we would not have a place to easily gather, put out feet up, scrap and get acquainted.
Notice too that the flights to Orlando are comparable in price to the ones to Ohio and in most instances still speak of shorter time in the air with fewer stop overs. Also, don't forget that many more people would be able to drive into the meet in Orlando should they choose to come.
All our Florida Ladies (Patti, Carol, Hilda, Tabitha, Tonya, Mel, Tabitha and perhaps by then, Maureen will be back with us too.) plus Jacqui and Michelle S(from GA)
Personally I am planning on driving to the meet if it is in Orlando so that I can bring in extra folding tables if we decide we want to crop and supplies as well as drive us around. Jacqui has told me that she would plan on coming as well, which would give us a mini van. So basically, other than getting to and from the airport, you won't have to worry about transportation. I'm not sure what we'll have to pay for transport in Columbus to get around. But I am sure that I would also drive to Atlanta as would, I think Jacqui. I pretty much have to drive through Atlanta anyway to get down to Florida. I'm not sure that I'll be able to go to Ohio, it is on a weekend that I normally spend with my husband, but I certainly won't be driving there.
So I guess that how you vote really depends on what you want this meet to be.
I've updated the flight costs on the
