Hi.

I love my gateway M-Series in Fire engine red. It is a DVD-R, laptop with wireless capability. It also has a webcam built in.

I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Larry uses the tower and I live off my laptop.

The only thing I miss is a disk drive. It has a CD/DVD drive but sometimes the disk drive would be helpful.

I ordered this computer to be able to handle the amount of photographs and clip art I would use.

I have a Compaq CQ60-210US from Staples. I use in the childcare because it's so mobile. I use an online childcare program for my business and having the wireless laptop is wonderful for keeping my records up to date and easy access to the internet. Today we were talking about birds and I got the laptop down and we found bird songs to listen to. The kids thought that was great. The 15.6 screen is enough for me. I found a bag at Wal-Mart to store it in that was padded. My sister has a bigger hp with a 17" screen and I think it's almost too heavy for a laptop. I know it's a little faster and bigger hard drive, but the weight and size sort of defeats the mobility issue. Sandy

I have a Dell inspirion.. kinda heavy... they have lighter ones now. In fact I saw a very small one at target on Saturday before I got on the ship. My brother has an ACER (?). The one I gave him a while back was a HP. 15" screens on all I think.

I have one and love it. Actually I have 2, one for home that we bought and one for work that my work purchased. Both are Dell. they are a little heavy, but they are so portable still. For screen size, I wouldn't go smaller than a 17", especially if you will be working with photo's and digital scrapping. You can get a larger LCD monitor to hook up to it if you really wanted to.

Hope you find one that's right for you.

We have a Dell in Navy blue Metallic core 2 duo 15" screen ( from QVC); a HP Pavilion with a 15" Screen and a Compaq that is my son's ( he is 7 and doesn't use it much). It is approx. 6 yo. and is slow but still works 15" screen. Good Luck, Dorothy in NY

I have an older HP that I use just for my Cricut, scrapping and traveling but I really want one of those new netbooks. I am hoping everyone takes the hint (a photo is on the fridge) chips in and gets me it (or at least a newegg giftcard to use towards it) for Mothers Day.

Macs are the greatest thing ever made and I will NEVER own a PC ever again. Too much trouble.

Lynne, We really love our Lap tops. I have a Gateway, 15"..... Hubby has a gateway, 14".... Kids have Dell, 3 HPs. They love theirs too... #1 DD has HP that has touch screen that also turns around and lays flat with screen up... She loves it. Rest are fairly normal Laptops... No extra frills really.. I like the portability of my laptop. I can go anywhere and still do the things I want to do. (we got an air card for Internet use while traveling or going places where there was no wireless available...). My #1 S-I-Law (by Age) specially ordered his Dell... He would not listen to anyone and had to order it with frills... but as far as I know, his is really just a costly ego boosting laptop.. does not do anything special enough for me to spend the kind of money he spent for one computer. We got our TWO For the price of his... and my husband uses a computer to do his work... (He is a system Programmer Analyst)... so he bought mine with the possibility of using it for work. It works fine. His is a different model Gateway and he has a little trouble with it staying connected, but mine has no problems at all. My only complaint is the battery life is still only about an hour on max power... a little more for balanced or less power... But as long as you can get close to an outlet....you can charge it. (DD #1 has a way to plug hers into her car....) Office Depot almost always has at least some kind on sale. Watch their sale papers. About every other week they have the same type on sale. Like we bought our Gateway and about three weeks later they had it on sale again.

What is a air card....???

Cathy,

An air card is basically a cell phone that you can only plug into your computer. It has a real number and is about the same price as one individual cell phone, but it is different in that you can not talk on it... it also looks different... but while in Texas last year during my Mom's funeral, it helped us to stay connected as there was a cell tower close and my family in Texas did not have internet access... Ours is through ATT.

I get to use a Mac at church. Our visual aid dept has a couple and I love working on it. I am saving to get one for myself. They are so much more stable than a PC.

Haven't used a lap top too much. But I would have to have a mouse and a

10 key pad. The mouse pad on them would drive me to drink, and I don't need another excuse - ok I would take another excuse, whiskey anyone? I do a great deal of 10 key and have never gotten used to statistical typing. By the time you add all of that on, is it really worth it?

I too love a real mouse. Hubby got one for me and it is red just like my computer. I use it a lot more than the pad in the middle of computer. It is wireless so I could even use it on my leg... (A ten key would be a good investment because I learned to do 10-key and still at least remember the concepts). I never really kept up with my typing skills or my 10-key... but I am at least now past the hunt and peck stage... I love my laptop because if I take and fill up all of my memory cards for my three cameras... (which I have done in a weekend before)... Then I can download them all to my computer.... clear my cards and know I still have all of the pictures I just took available. (Hubby also is computer programmer, so he can actually work ANYWHERE with my computer.) We can sit outside and/or any room in the house and do whatever I need to do. I have Microsoft Office, so I can keep excel spreadsheet of the bills, or of my orders for stampin up' or any type of inventory.... (For private use or for a home business).
