OT: Prayers Needed

No time to read or post more. I'm home from the hospital just long enough to line out the kids and the house again and shower. DH went down on Thursday early in the morning. pancreatitis attack, kidney function bad, possible dialysis, blood count down - not sure yet of cause.

Will catch up on things later. Have a few queries about SS. Please bear with me, I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Update:

Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers. We are showing some improvement.

I'm home for the day. Can't catch up with the e-mail yet. No one to work for me at the daycare today and my helper would be alone.

DH was finally moved from ICU yesterday afternoon. He is improving as far as the pancreatitis is concerned. They finally put him on a liquid diet last night - jello - first food he has been able to eat since last Sunday. We still don't know about the kidneys. They are going to do one more temporary dialysis to try to 'jumpstart' the kidneys today. We will know tomorrow if it will work. The first treatment did help some on Saturday, but not enough for them to function on their own. We knew this day was coming, just are not ready for it. The doctors think the pancreatitis attack might have shut down the kidneys and they will be able to get them working enough to be able to ward of dialysis for a while yet. Please keep the prayers coming, Sandy

I just read your email Sandy. My prayers are going out to you and your family for your husbands speedy recovery. I hope they figure out what is happening so they can fix him and get him back home where he belongs. I'm not doing the SS this year, but I'm sure that everyone understands.

Sandy, I have your family in my prayers. I hope they are able to jumpstart DH kidneys. I'll keep sending good thoughts. Don't forget to take care of yourself.

DH should be home from the hospital on Friday if all goes well. The 'jumpstart' did not work. He is officially on dialysis for kidney failure. I have to go meet with the social service people tomorrow and the dietitian to learn what I can about all of this. So mentally drained at this point I cry at just about everything. He's so exhausted after the dialysis. At this point we don't know how much the insurance will pay, if he will be able to continue to work, etc. So much to learn, so many decisions to make.

Thanks for your thoughts and prayers, for listening to me and for being such good friends.

Oh Sandy, I'm sorry the jumpstart didn't work.

Learn all you can, and your DH, but please don't forget to take care of yourself. I'll send prayers up for you both, and send good thoughts your way. Is there anything we can do for you?

My dad was on dialysis several years ago. He's been gone 6 years now. I remember he started out just a couple of days a week for a couple of hours each time. Then he got to 3-4 days a week and 3-4 hours a time. You're right, my dad was always exhausted. It really wore him out. My dad's kidneys failed because he didn't take care of himself and he got an infection. Good luck to your husband and make sure you take care of yourself like everyone here is telling you. He will need you and your strength.

Hugs Shannon.

Sandy,

Continued prayers going up for both of you. My late father and sister both had kidney diseases (my sister had a kidney transplant as well)-- I know it is hard when a loved one is on dialysis. :*(

Oh my goodness Sandy! I had no idea - have not checked the group the past week! I'm sending special prayers and lots of good thoughts for you and your DH. My dad also had kidney failure last year round about this time, but due to wrong medication taken over too long a period, but fortunately he could avoid dialysis. He took a very long time to recover, though, but he is 75.

Have they figured out what caused the failure or has it been a long term problem? Either way - just hoping that he recovers soon. As the dialysis removes the toxins from his blood, he will start feeling better - but I know it is a very draining experience.
