Star Album Instructions

Supplies Needed:

6 sheets of 8.5x11 solid color cardstock (cut each piece to 11"x5&1/4")

3 sheets of 12x12 double sided cardstock quality patterned paper (cut 2 pieces at 8.5x5&1/4 from each piece of cardstock for a total of 6 pieces)

3 more sheets of 12x12 double sided cardstock quality patterned paper (cut 2 pieces at 7.5x5&1/4 from each piece of cardstock for a total of 6 pieces)

2 pieces of ribbon to tie off album

make sure all of your cardstock matches

Directions: (I tried to take pictures to help with the assembly. They are in my webshots account in the Star Album)

Fold each piece in half prior to assembly. A bone folder is great for this. layer six sets of cardstock using one of each size (all pieces are 5&1/4 in width) with the 11" on bottom, next 8.5 with 7.5 on top. Adhere the layers together at one of the short edges making sure to only glue the very edge of each layer.

I found that it was easier to decorate each set individually before adhering the opposite edge. (If you look at my albums in the 2009 swaps album in webshots you can see that on some of the pages I cut or punched shapes out of the top layer.

I did this before gluing the last edge together in each set.) You can be as creative as you want with the decorating. I used my shape cutter set to do ovals and circles in the first layer. Then photos can be added onto the second layer to be seen in a shadowbox effect.

After decorating each set individually I layered them together gluing the back of each set together to form the album which will form a star when opened.

To decorate the back and front and add the ribbon I used the extra paper making sure to glue the ribbon to the back and front under the extra paper.

This photo shows two of the sections glued together.

I hope I made this easy to understand. If not e-mail me and I will try to help you.

I just realized that my scrap table was a total disaster and now all of you can see what a slob I really am.

I was also thinking that this might be a good challenge to make a star album and post it for the rest of us to see. The theme for the albums are unlimited: baby, holiday, summer vacation, graduation, school year, etc.

Where do you get double sided cardstock? I can find paper but not the cardstock.

K & Company makes packs of paper that are double sided and almost as thick as cardstock. An example is their 12x12 Happy Trails pack. The package I am currently using is one called Whoop De Doo from g.c.d studios. s.e.i. makes double sided paper that is almost cardstock quality - I've got 'seasoned', 'hippie chick' and 'aunt gerdi's garden' here at the house. If you look, most double sided paper is thicker that regular patterned paper, some are thicker that others. I have been known to just go into an LSS and feel the paper first rather than look at the patterns. It does not have to actually be double sided. I like to use double sided myself as I can get more mileage out of the scraps to decorate the albums themselves. The black & silver & white star album I made for the swap (in my 2009 swaps album on webshots) was single sided and used cardstock quality paper from DCWV (bought at Joann's) The Glitter Stack. I've also used DCWV The Pocket Full of Posies Stack. Their paper works great for star albums. The only problem is that DCWV only gives you two sheets of the same design in their stacks so you have to mix and match designs to make the star albums.

LOLOL!!! :-) Sandy, you don't have anything on *me*!! I can't even WALK in my hobby room, much less work in there!!

Now that my in-laws are here I'm going to finally have some time (uninterrupted!) to get the place organized so I *can* work in there, LOL!

I was fortunate a few years ago that one of the venders at GASC was selling 2 sided cardstock CHEAPCHEAPCHEAP--IIRC, about 75 sheets per pizza box (brand new, LOL) at $10.00 a box! I got like 5 of them!!!

If you can't find any where you are, let me know, I'll be more than glad to mail some to you! :-)

(snip instructions)

Your star album looks beautiful! Do you have a picture of a completed star album for people who didn't do the swap?
