Suggestions Please (long)

Hi All, Yes, its me the scrapbooking "lurker" again, seeking advice, please. I'm just starting a scrapbook about my childhood. Theres very few photos of me as a newborn/baby considering it was 1950's and of course they're black and white. I've done the 1st two pages now 2 times and am going to give it another try. The photos (copys) I'm using on these 2 pgs. are approx. 3 1/2 in. square and are 1-me in bassinet, 2-on a blanket outside in the spring, 3-in highchair,4-in huge upholstered chair. I first tried double matting in monochromatic pattern of beige and then a deep rose, placed these onto a 12x12 paper of shades of beige with pink roses printed here and there, that didn't work well, the pics seemed to disappear in the patterned 12x12. I then tried leaving the same matting and placing on a beige 12x12 paper of beige patterned with old style writing running across it, that was just too drab and adult looking for baby pics. Now I've rematted them in black square frames with oval cutout for the picture, this looks good and brings the photos out well. They look good against Making Memories Black Brocade Light Paper, which is actually light and dark grey. But, I don't know how to keep the heritage look while acknowledging these are "baby" pictures and need something to "accent" that fact. Any suggestions on how to conserve the heritage look without making it too drab? I also could use some ideas on titles for scrapbooking about yourself, Precious Baby, Darling Baby Girl, etc. just don't seem right to use scrapping my own pictures. Thanks so much for your continued help and ideas. Ladymo

There are stickers for baby stuff done in a heritage theme, or maybe try clip art files. As for titles feel free to use what you would if you were scrapping someone else, I did when I did mine HTH Barb:o)

I would think light pink ribbon would look nicely with the black and grey theme. Heritage looking...but baby pink for any accents you use. You could use light pink and beige buttons, you can sometimes fine antique buttons if you would prefer (E-Bay). The titles you listed sound fine. You could try to find a "Baby" (or better yet Baby Heritage) scrapbooking magazine for ideas for titles, etc.

Hmmm Ladymo, I am just doing the same kind of book for me. I bought a Heritage kit from....of all places Avon! The papers and embellishments fit my pictures very well. Mine are in black and white also . i was born in 1936. I don't have very many pictures of me as a baby so I started out with pictures of my parents as children. Then pictures of my parents in their ''''courting" days. and slipped into the earliest pics of me as a baby. The colors are muted and patterned. Shades of brown, taupe, cream and muted stripes seem to fit any of the heritage photos. The scrapbooking kits are rather new with Avon and I had to give them a try. I am pleased with how it is turning out. The embellishments are nice, too. Also have two sets of alphs stickers that look good on the titles. In my parents case their baby pictures were sepia and very formal . I copied them in black and white for my album. Most of my childhood was in the 1940's so it all worked out well. You will enjoy doing this album..it gives you a chance to get to know that little girl and will bring back fond memories.

Hi LadyMo

I like the looks of b&w pics on pastel pages, not crazy about patterned pages, but that's just me. To keep with the heritage look, I think photo corners in a light colour could work. As far as the journaling goes, how about talking in first person....eg...I was born on....this is me doing....etc. HTH

Oh Sabrina, this sounds gorgeous. I do so wish I could see them :) I like the idea of starting your book with you parents and when they were courting...when little Sabrina was still just a twinkle in her folks eyes! ;))))

Ah, Judy, That is the only thing I hate about my Webtv...I cannot scan and share. I will figure out some way someday but in the meantime I always look at everyone's LOs and appreciate the generosity of everyone for sharing. I have learned so much on this group and have gotten a lot of confidence in my own scrapbooking seeing how others work.
