Things I've Learned About Scrapbooking

Here's a few things I've learned about how I like to scrapbook.

  1. I'm not a sticker person! I only learned that after buying oodles of stickers then not using them. I have used a few CM or Jolee stickers but those are few and far between.

  1. I love paper piecing but have only used it on a few pages as it really increases the time to finish the page. (My latestest brag - I did one titled "friends with BIG DRINKS", we went to Red Lobster with friends and wanted to do a LO, I used a lobster paper piecing to accent both pages - it starts on one and crosses over to the other giving a really neat effect, the original reason was to emphasis Red Lobster but also to hide a glass in one of the pics that couldn't be cropped out)

  2. I love textured papers and metallics! DS takes me to a place that specializes in these types of papers. I'm so very careful using them and believe me I keep every last scrap just in case.

  1. I love the gadgets but really only use a few of them on a regular basis.

  2. I keep *every* scrap irregardless of the size.

  1. I love printing my own papers! I'm no longer willing to pay the high prices for paper that I can print myself and customize if I want.

  2. Using computerized titles can really save a lot of time!

  1. The hobby is addicting :)

  2. I don't adhere to the one or two photos per page. Most of my LOs are two page so depending on the size of the photos, I can get anywhere from 1 to 16 on a page.

I like this thread Scrappin Away. Here's what I've learned...

  1. I'm not a crazy scissor person. I have one pair and never use it. I have an acquaintance scrapbooker that I see about once a year and she uses crazy/silly scissor on about every scrap of paper on each LO. I'm glad she enjoys them, but it makes me cringe.

  1. I'm a gadget person too. I am into tools that will help make my own embellishment rather than buying embellishments.

  2. I like stickers, but resort to rubber stamping more often than stickers.

  1. I too put many pictures to a page. Lately, I've been experimenting with using one photo. It's hard to do. haha

  2. I've been considering scrapbooking as a hobby for years and I've been thinking lately it's more of a "chore" that needs to be done regularly. Pictures need to get into albums so they can be enjoyed and cared for. Wish more chores were this fun.

I have learned a lot about my styles...I don't have one.

  1. I love to try new things all the time, techniques, products, etc, and love gadgets. I have a ton on gadgets to use.

  1. I love to use fibers and ribbons on layouts.

  2. I am learning to use my stamps more on my pages and not using the stacks of stickers that I have.

  1. I like to vary the number of pictures depending on what it is..If there are a lot of pics, I try to make it a 2 pager..

Scrappin' Away, I love printing my own papers too! I refuse to do any journaling that is not on the computer. That automatically makes me a font-a-holic! :-)

16 pictures on a page! A girl after my own heart. I actually started scrapbooking because it made me mad that I could only fit 3 pictures on a page. That is in the old days with magnetic film albums (cringe!) I filled an album with just one roll of film. I said this is nuts.

I love tools & techniques. I can't wait to try something new.

Stickers I love in other people's work, but I don't think I use them well. I've seen some LO with incredible sticker creations. Mine look like a kindergarten project.

I don't buy supplies just to buy. I typically need a reason or purpose. However, as my travels are increasing, I'm starting to have fun going to LSS in other cities. I'll pick up something because I bought it "out of state". I figure there is always someone with which to swap or to share if I don't use it. I came sooo close to buying some wire clips in Seattle this week. They were a bit more than what I could get them in OH, but I wish now that I had just done it.

Thanks to RJ, I'm an official fiber fanatic. I think everyone one of my last 8 LOs have had a fiber or two. Good thing I have a great friend who stocked me well! :-)

Don't ever cure me from my addition!

Ok I'll jump in here. This is an interesting thread you started Scrappin' Away.

  1. I love ribbon and fibers. Sewing on layouts is becoming a new favorite too.

  1. I have given up on eyelets. Brads are much easier to use and come in lots of neat shapes and colors.

  2. I save all my scraps too. Now I just need to find the time to sit down and do something with them.

  1. I like using rubber stamps and embossing powder.

  2. I enjoy trying new techniques. Recently I've seen some interesting things done with decorative scissors that I'm going to try out.

I'm sure there are more things to add to the list, but that's all I can think of at the moment.

Great thread! Hmm...let me see what I can come up with.

  1. I'm not a sticker person, either. However, I do like 3D stickers, epoxy stickers, alpha stickers (especially decorative ones), word stickers, & even some quote stickers (sometimes). Usually, if I use a regular decorative sticker, it's a clear backed sticker.

  1. I like the looks of paper piecing, but just takes too much time for me. So I don't do it that often. But I do have some LOs in mind that I know I'll be doing PP on.

  2. I love paper of all kinds. I am an admitted paper floozy, and flass, too.

  1. I'm addicted to metal. Eyelets, brads, clips, wire, charms, etc. If it's shiny or metal I have to have it.

  2. I love my tools and gadgets.

  1. I keep almost every scrap of paper or cardstock, too. You never know when you'll use it! But, I have cut down on how much white cardstock scraps I keep. When the gallon sized ziploc bag has more scraps than any other color, it's time to cut back. LOL

  2. I love using my stamps and inks for scrapping. If I don't have just the right background paper, and I can stamp a sheet of cardstock to use as the background, I will. But I still like having all my 12 x 12 papers and shopping for more! See...a paper floozy.

  1. I'm addicted to scrapbooking, but can't seem to find the time on a regular purpose to do it. :-( I keep trying to juggle things, and my scrapping keeps getting shuffled to the bottom of the priority list.

Ok, well here's what I know about my scrapping

  1. It's so addicting.
  2. I don't use much stickers any more either. I have tons.
  3. You can never have enough scrapbooking supplies
  4. I'm a very slow scrapper. I takes me forever to decide how I want the page to look. I'm never going to get caught up.
  5. When i get together with new people to scrap. I don't get much done. I end up watching them. Love to see how others scrap. See if I can get new ideas from them.
  6. I love my X xyron. Can't live with out it.
  7. I love having my own room at home to scrap in. My space. I can start a project and leave it and come back later.
  8. I love the RCS newsgroup.
  9. I'm a hopper when it comes to scrapbooking. I've got about 3 books going right now.
  10. I think I need to go shopping for more scrapbooking supplies. LOL.

I love this thread too. I'm going to echo many of the things that others have said, but here goes:

  1. I am more addicted than ever now that I have my own cropping room in the basement.
  2. Because I have a place to put it, I now buy more than I could possibly ever need.
  3. I love idea books! I used to collect all of the CM idea books, but I'm getting bored. I have recently become a student of Becky Higgins (Sketches).
  4. I hate white backgrounds. Again, this started with my initial adaptation of the CM style, but I'm less and less happy with white as time goes on.
  5. I adore journaling boxes. In the last year or so, CM has started including journaling boxes in their paper packs and in their little freebie crop gifts. They also have little idea sheets about how to make your own, and I just love those. I'll stick one on almost every layout, even if I have to come back to it.
  6. I love tools. I have more tools than I could ever possibly justify the expense for. I have 10 Sizzix alphabets, and probably around 30-40 dies, when you include the Sizzlet sets. And of course that means I can't live without a Xyron.
  7. I typically have at least two albums going at once, but I have to go chronlogical. Even if I skip ahead for a later layout now an then, I won't put the album on the shelf until it's completely done - journaling and all.
  8. I have embellishment phases - I'm moving away from stickers (good thing my daughter loves them - she can have my leftovers); I've dabbled in eyelets and brads; I don't entirely have a knack for fibers; but when all is said and done, you can spot embellishment patterns in my work.

I guess that's enough for now.. love the thread.. looking forward to reading more.

LOL!!

I had to agree with many of your statements, but especially "this hobby is addicting"!

I have one other warning, THIS GROUP IS WORSE!!!! LOL!

By group I mean the shopping sites We find, the new stuff WE try, or see, the places WE go, the people WE talk to or about(!), and everything else in general WE do!!

This sounds like fun, let's see what I come up with.

Thngs I know about my scrapping style:

  1. I am a chronological scrapper. I've done a few theme pages and found them very hard. They are waitng to go in an appropriate place in my albums.
  2. I jump around n my scrapping.LOL does this sound like a contradiction to #1. Anyway I have 3 albums on the go right now so when I am out of pictures (time to print more) for one album or out of inspiration for it I work on a different album.
  3. I cringe at my white background LO's that I used to do. I recently tried to do a white background thinking there was lots of color in the photos and I didn't want to take away from that. After everythng was attached it felt undone so I chalked all the background that was showing. Now I like it.
  4. I am a slow scrapper. I takes me a long time to figure out what I want. The double LO I am currently working on has been sitting on the table for a week and each time I walk by I move something or add something.
  5. I LOVE trying new things. New techniques or embellishments, etc.
  6. I don't have nearly enough gadgets, well at least not as many as I want.
  7. I save all my scraps.
  8. My girls will gladly use any stickers I no longer like and many more.
  9. Scrapping is a great way to relax and unwind.

Some things that I have learned...well I can echo almost everyone here, for one thing!

  1. I dont use too many stickers, unless I buy it specifically for the page I am working on. I have a 3 ring binder of misc. stickers that I have collected from my first months of scrapbooking, and catching them on sale.I dont use many alphabet stickers

  1. I love my sizzix machine, and really need to use it more! Guess that means I need more dies!

  2. I don't like to put less than 2 or three pictures on a page, unless they are small.

  1. I think I have reorganized my scrap area about five times. I HAVE to because I keep buying stuff!!! It also makes me look at what I have in stock and I don't forget what I have.

  2. I am ADDICTED to RCS, the hobby AND the shopping for the supplies!

  1. I like buying my patterned paper and matching cardstock at the same time. Then I usually forget which color goes with each paper..lol It all works out in the end, tho!

7.I am getting more into stamping, heat embossing and cardmaking and LOVE IT. 8.I do save my scraps, as long as I can use them to cut out letters with my sizzix.
  1. I do not scrap in order. I hop from one thing to another, whatever mood strikes me.
  2. I think I spend more time READING posts on RCS, reading about new techniques and products, and window shopping online, than actual scrapping..LOL LOL Linda C
