1 Princess dress finished

I just finished the princess dress I promised a DGD so that she can have it for the birthday party for her 2 little sisters. The party is Saturday. Now I don't think I'll even get to see her wear it the first time. We are expecting torrential rain again tomorrow night and Saturday. DH is worried about the basemenet flooding because the water table is so high. So he doesn't want to be away. It's a 2 hour drive to their house. DH said he thinks we'll have to go up tomorrow with the dress and come right home. It's been a trial trying to get the dress finished. I used materials I've never worked with before like nylon tulle and net. On top of that most days I could only work for a very short time before having to leave it to go someplace with DH. He's been having a lot of pain in his knee and is feeling cooped up because he's unable to get around the way he used to. He's waiting to see the surgeon about a knee replacement. All of which leads up to the fact that when he wants to get out of the house, I drop everything and we go. I hope someone will take a picture of her in the dress. The pattern is Simplicity 4647. I made major changes in the way it went together so that she could use the dress for either dress up or school. Juno

good for you Juno. what were the changes you made in the way it went together? sounds so cool. maybe you could stay long enough for her to at least put it on and let you get a few pictures? hope so, at least.

Staying will depend on the weather and if she gets home from school before DH is ready to bug out. I made the slip separate from the skirt and an apron overskirt separate from the skirt. They were all supposed to be sewn to the top as one piece. I also turned the apron piece so that it opened in the back and attached it to a belt that's the same materal as the skirt of the dress. I made a separate belt from the skirt material also. Juno

Sounds like my Dad's house. Water comes up through the sump. He rigged up a pump with a float that pumps water out the window if it gets too high in that pit. Technically not legal, but he'd rather risk a ticket than deal with a basement full of water while he's away. It's not like he's always pumping water out in the yard. In the past 20 years he's only had it kick in once.

I hit send too soon.

I meant to finish it with How horribly disappointed you must be. She'll love the dress - I'm sure her Mom will be sure to get you some pictures.

If I was her Mom, I'd get her out of school early so you could see it on her.

We delivered the dress and Mom loved it. Little sister kept saying what a pretty dress you made gor Gab. Now she Can be a princess too. Gab got home from school before we left. She was thrilled. She tried it on and let me take a couple of pictures. Mom was so pleased with it that she said she'll wear it tomorrow for the party and again when she goes to a wedding in a few weeks. Gab wanted to know if she could take it to Florida when she goes down next week to see her other Gandma. So it was a succesful trip. When we got home DH went down to get the wet vac set up for the impending rain. We are expecting between 2-4 inches starting tomorrow morning and going through to Sunday morning. I think it's time to start thinking of building the ark. Juno
