A fitting problem

Can someone help me just a bit. I have fleshy shoulders and always seem to need to extend the front tops of my patterns at the shoulders by at least 3/4 of an inch! Then I am stuck with having to adjust the back accordingly. Should I then cut the back neck lower as well? I get wrinkles at the back neck site?

When I extend the front I sometimes wind up with an armhole that is way too big also. I am tempted to slash the pattern in the middle front and tuck in at the armholes a bit.

Can I have some advice about this please? I'm getting not only frustrated, but desperate.

I am a D-cup bust fitting and quite short in stature.

Thanks out there you guys!

Cheers

Dear Daisy,

I suspect that when you extend the shoulder, you inadvertently change the size of the armhole. Try slashing and spreading somewhere in the center of the shoulder, to the bottom of the armhole. And do 3/8 inch front and back, rather than all in the front.

Also, if you are a D cup, you might need to give yourself more room in the bust area. After making the above alteration, trace the front, neck and shoulder. Then, put a pin at the tip of the shoulder, and rotate the pattern out 1/2 inch. Trace the armhole. Remove that pin, and put a pin at the top of the side seam. Rotate the pattern back, so that the pattern is parallel with the center front. This will give you more room without changing the armhole, waist or shoulder.

Dear Daisy, You might try this: starting at the neck edge, draw a line adding amount needed to the top of the shoulder splitting between back and front of garment. That will keep the neck the same.

Then, following the curve of the underarm, add the same amount again back and front to the bottom of the curve. This will keep your armhole the same size for sleeves and should help with the wrinkling.

If you find you need a little more in the armhole you can adjust as needed. Hope this helps. Ginger
