Aaack, I'm Going Blind!!!

Well, not really. I finally took the leap (I've been studying this project intensely) and began sewing the pleats in DGD's kilt.

By hand.

There will be 27 pleats, 7.385 inches to the "fell" (that's the distance from the top of the kilt to the full-hip area), and I'm aiming for 10-stitches-to-the-inch. That's a *lot* of hand sewing.

I'm *really* grateful my DH dragged home one of those circular-light-with-magnifying-lens things several years ago, and that it lit up when I turned it on!

Pics will go up later....much later. ;-}

If anyone can do this, it's you. ;) I'd probably already be crosseyed, or blind drunk in frustration trying to match the plaid perfectly. So you're doing great!!!!

Things to remember if your hands start cramping up: Aleve is good stuff if you can take it. Drink a lot of water. Soak them in a nice warm bath if they get really sore. And try to let the work table hold as much of your work as you can. Don't hold it up with one hand and work with the other. Use the table, young jedi. ;)

I know you've not met a fabric, or a garment that can beat you, doubt you ever will. You will win with this one too. :)

And, oddly enough, enjoying it! Takes me an average of 25-30 minutes for each pleat, and my back starts whimpering if I go beyond two or three at a sitting, so I'll take my time. It doesn't *have* to be done until mid-June.

I can't take Aleve or any other aspirin-related product, due to another Rx I take. I have one of those heat & massage cushions for my favorite chair, I just take a break in it once in a while.

Thanks, Sharon. I'm not worried about it, it's just such a completely different garment than I have ever tackled before. I had no idea the rules about pleating to the sett were so complicated. It's fun...kinda. ;-)
