Aboyne Doll's outfit done

Oh, Doreen, I am truly sorry! I will try to think of something for the dolls which would be easy to put on and off, maybe hats? Or tiny blankets... I wish you and your family the very best, I hope all goes well.

Beverly,

Thanks so much for your concern and good wishes. It is a dreadful thing for a child to go through, but we feel very fortunate that at least it's a treatable form of bone cancer, and her prognosis is good.

To get this back on a Christmas-sewing-related note, here's a photo of the soft briefcase I made for my sister, who still does some free lance editing and makes many trips back and forth between home and the library. It's the City Bag pattern from Lazy Girl Designs:

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't mind admitting that my own "Medicinal liquor & chocolate" estimate has been much higher than that from time to time. ;) I would have hit that this week had my kind neighbor not shown up with a basket of cookies. Frosted Christmas cookies rank right up there with a nice glass of Riesling/piece of Dove chocolate in the "medicinal" category. ;)

----Done: two aprons, one bathrobe, one doll, one custom embroidered wine bag (filled with a nice bottle of merlot); To Finish: hem the second bathrobe (the acetate brocade one), two stockings (since Gram & Pop prolonged their visit so as not to drive through the blizzard piled up between here and their house, they needed stockings to hang. The stockings are cut out, embroidered with their names and partially stitched. Will finish possibly tomorrow.) I will post pictures as soon as I can.

Thank you, Sharon! I hope my sister will like it. I made middle DD one in batiks this summer, and she uses it in her real estate work.

Love the bag. I have never made handbags, just a couple of totebags for DGD to carry her DVDs and books when traveling to shows, etc. Emily

Emily,

I'd never done any handbags until earlier this year, and have only used Lazy Girl Designs (NAYY)...I've done three by the Towne Purse pattern, and two City Bags. LG bags are not particularly fast to make, but they aren't difficult and IMO the directions are clear and well thought out. They're geared toward quilters and others who are accustomed to using rotary cutters and rulers (there are no pattern pieces, as such, just measurements).

Doreen, hug that brave DGD. It's amazing how brave kids can be. Know I send good wishes for her and all the family; it's got to be a tough time. Hang in there for her.

Doreen I am so sorry to hear of your dgd's illness. It must be terrible for you all. I know I would much rather suffer myself than see dh or the kids go through anything. I'll keep you all in my thoughts.

Jean, I'll give her an extra special hug from you. And yes, she and the other kids on the oncology floor are so brave. We just have to believe that once they get through this, whatever other problems life may hand them will be a piece of cake.

Exactly what DH and I keep saying to each other, Olwyn Mary..."Why couldn't it have been us instead of her?" It's something a child really shouldn't have to experience. Thank you for your concern.

I'm making my last gift pair of fleece socks, then will bake the chocolate pound cake to take to our best neighbors. Along with the ambrosia (21 oranges peeled and sectioned) I made last night for DH and his sister, because it reminds them of their mother, these are the last of my holiday preparations. Whew. Except for Christmas dinner, of course.

who spent the last three days preparing, serving Christmas Eve dinner, then cleaning up after....crystal, china, and flatware for 10, and it all gets washed by hand.

I'm very glad for you and her that the prognosis is good, but I'm sorry any child has to go through this sort of stress. And it has to be horrible for Grandma, too, so be sure you take good care of *you*.

She was (thrilled) and I did (have her arms around my neck)!

I can honestly appreciate the workmanship,

Holy Smokes! 60 hours!!!??? That's a wonderful story!

And I love "...once they paid for the DNA testing I'd check the results to see if they qualified for such an act of love...."! I think I'll make up an embroidered sign, for all the folks who ask me about sewing. I dearly love sewing for people I love, and who know and appreciate the effort I put into it.
