Actually used my serger today

I have a sweater I love. It has a few seams that have opened and needed some mending. I was hesitant to sew it on the serger because I wasn't sure how well I could see it. I had my first cataract removed 7 days ago. Since I realized that I can see so much better now that the one eye has been done I decided to see how some light sewing would go. I just needed to change the needle thread. Borrowed DH's reading glasses went down, turned on the machine, lowered the knife and bingo, I threaded the needle on the first try. Can't wait to see how well I'll see after I have the second eye done next week. You'll be sewing up a storm in a few weeks time at this rate.

Isn't it amazing??? Cataracts creep up on you so slowly that you don't realize just how compromised your vision has become until the dang thing is removed and you can SEE again Oh, joy! I vividly remember how bright colors were again, and since my inserted lens correction was very nearly perfect, I was able to see well without glasses or contacts for the first time since I was about twelve. Having to wear reading glasses is no big deal, and my night vision is so much better now, too.

I hope the second surgery goes as well for you. AND, I hope your surgeon warned you about the possibility of some cloudiness behind the lens after several months. That happened to me, and I was alarmed because no one had told me it might happen. A quick in-office laser procedure cleared that right up.

I was aware that I was having a hard time reading unless I had very bright light. I also thought we needed a new TV because the one we have was fuzzy. Night driving was becoming a horror. I considered myself a danger on the road and refused to do it. I call the surgery medical magic to see so well.

He has said that if I have any changes in vision I have to call right away. That was good enough for me to be aware that there is a possibility of a problem at some time. He gave me his, as he calls it, his routine chatter. Juno

I has also been a week since DH had one eye operated on and he sure is pleased. The other eye is scheduled for next Tuesday and we are sure everything will be just as good! Hope you will be just as pleased with your surgery~ Barbara in FL

IIRC, it was this mob that cheered me on for my cataract surgery two years (I think) ago. They banished my fears/nerves and sent me off, and I came back as you have, delighted to see again! I hadn't realized how much visual acuity I had lost until I got it back.

I had mine done in 2006, I'm pretty sure I became a booster soon after.

It is a wonder surgery. Cataracts come on so slowly I did not have any idea just how poorly I was seeing. The added benefit of having corrective lenses implanted (no more fuss with contacts or specs) is beyond incredible.

That's the way it was with me when I had my eye surgeries last year, Juno. I really don't need glasses for most chores; but since I've worn them since the early 1950s, it's been a big change to make.

I sincerely hope your 2nd one goes as well as the first.
