adding a hood to a t-shirt

I can make a hood, no problem. But when I pin and sew it to the t- shirt. Do I need to cover the seem with bias tape or something? I am not someone that sews too much, just started the hobby. I can understand how to pin the hood to the shirt and sew it, but what about the seam? Thanks.
