Alan Dicey's Suit

I've been laid up in Hosp. with back surgery and may have missed it. Did Kate ever post pics? Cant find them on her site. I'm wondering if she sewed the jacket entirely by hand like bespoke tailors do and save the machine work only for the trousers, often done by an assistant. At least that's the way Georges de Paris does it in Washington DC. (Tailor to US Presidents for the past 40 years) Heck, he even did some for Tony Blair, which sounds a little like carrying coals to Newcastle, doesn't it? Extensive article on Georges in New Yorker Mag a few years back, which see. JPBill

Sorry to hear you've been out of action, Bill. I hope the surgery went well and you are recovering properly.

I'm in the iddle of preparing the pages for the site now. I needed to take the LJ entries and edit them. I've got the last bit to do. I've tried twice, and my machine locked up and colapsed under the strain as I tried to save it, so I gave up as I ran out of time!

I'll try to get it up this weekend.

As this was an FTL sewing project, no, the jacket was NOT hand built. Speed tailoring all the way! It went well, but isn't as satisfactory as hand built, so when I make the one out of the 'good' wool (this was an excellent but budget poly wool mix, more suited to speed/fusing methods), I will do that the traditional way. :)

Thanks for the update on your suit project and sorry to bug the group on it, but your undertaking a project of that complexity blows me away!

My surgery was Monday last: laminectomies at L3/L4 and T11/T12 this time. All went well, but plenty sore right now.

Most of my suits from working days were off the peg, mainly year-round weight and poly-wool blend, which traveled well. My U.S. company had a division at Bury (Lancs) which I visited regularly (but not often enough), so I got regular "fixes" of your fine English woolens. My friends there weren't in the bespoke suit category, but the quality of their suits was obvious. JPBill
