ALL THE TROUSERS ARE DONE!!

And James is reasonably pleased with them. they have growing room, so I may not have to make more for a while... He has taken all 4 pairs off to camp.

However, I do want to try the zippy-off's again, as there are certain refinements to the pattern that I need to make... He may come home to an experimental RED pair! :D

YAY!!!!!!!!

Good Job Mom!

Hey he can always wear them around the house to clean and do yard work. ;) Nobody said he had to wear them out anywhere. Tell him once or twice of crawling around pulling weeds in the garden and they won't be so bright a red anymore. ;)

Yeah... And the last lot of weird coloured trousers I made for him (sort of purplish navy & mid blue camo pattern!) he wore to death! He has plenty of garden work to do, whith grass mowing, bush clipping and branch shredding, a path to help build, and rocks to shift... Red zippy-offs it is! :D And the front and back garden combined are 270 feet long!

I took a much needed break from my psychedelic color chaos. The children and I went to a birthday party/pool party yesterday and had a blast. Sunday, I spent 3 hours cleaning out the garage...we actually have space in there now...I'm impressed!! Saturday, the family just hung out, played in the little pool that we have for the children (neither knows how to swim yet), and had a water balloon fight.

Those were all more important than sewing.....not that it happens often .

Here's a question for you.....The capris I'm making my niece are all rather plain...darts in front and back, pockets in front. I was thinking about doing some decorative stitching on the white pair - using orange, lime, and blue....what do you think about that?? The stitching would be on the pockets and at the hem of the pants.

photos.yahoo.com/nystitcher1972 has pictures of the plain tangerine pair of capris so you can see what they look like without any decoration.

should give you a link to the 1st page of the SImplicity patternsfor girls. The pattern I'm working with is # 3771, which is thesecond one in the first row. If you click on that, you can see thedesign sketch for the capris, which probably shows the pockets andsuch more clearly. Thanks and congrats!

Beverly,

Considering that James is Kate's son, I'm confident that he can carry off red trousers with great aplomb...may even set a trend!

Does he play golf? *innocent smile*

Surely that would require red plaid plus fours ;-)

I suspect anyone related to Kate could carry it off. ;-)

Beverly, finished with the third set of casual slacks, now on to the shirts. And we have reservations at a chi-chi restaurant in NYC for DD & DSIL's anniversary, so I'm going to make some palazzo pants, too. I found the "Slinky" travel fabric at denverfabrics.com. :-)

That sounds like fun! :D

We went off to a medieval etc 'event' at Dover castle, joined English Herritage*, and got James fitted into a suit of armour! :)

I think coloured embroidery and rows of pretty stitching will be excellent. :) What a nice fun pattern for the young lady. :D

Fret not! When the time comes, there will be pix. :) I have pix of some of the present batch, ready to go up...

He'd rather wear a suit of armour, but I don't doubt the red breeks will get several airings!

No, he's more a rugby and football (soccer) player and fan.

The idea of James dressed in such... Surreal giggle! Thanks for the mental break! ;)

When he doesn't like a garment much, it spends a long time lurking at the bottom of the ironing basket, waiting for him to grow out of it! :D

Slinky sounds good. :)

If you start with making sure everything you buy from now on mixes and matches properly, attrition will contribute to your having a coordinated wardrobe much sooner.
