Another beading question

Hi All,

With relation to my new posh frock mentioned in an earlier post, I want to bead the front bodice of the top (New Look 6428).

I've bought tiny matching glass beads and thread with which to do the work. I was thinking about putting a lot of randomly placed beads on the V at the centre front of the bodice, then the rest of the front only with random beads placed at roughly 2" apart.

What do you all think?

And what is the best time to do this work? I think I should do this when I've built the front bodice, but before I've lined it. But if I do that, it will make sewing the bodice togther a bit awkward, although I could use the zipper foot to do the seam. What would you recommend?

TIA,

Sarah

Attach the lining at the top only, then flip it out of the way while you apply the beads.

What are you planning to do for the boning, and what are you interlining the bodice with?

You REALLY want to line after beading! Otherwise you'll catch fingers, bra fastenings, etc on it every time you put it on or take it off! Sew the outside together, then bead, then line. Again, look at the beaded Dressing Janeanne project.

Hi AJH,

That had occured to me, but given the shape of the front - 2 piece straight centre front seam and the deep 'V', I think its going to be a pig to try and bead with the lining attached to the front. I shall have to see how much room there is for manouver when I make the test bodice....

I have DH lined up to help with the fitting LOL :-) I may have to see if I can bribe my neighbour to come over instead - I would ask my Mum buts she's 250 miles away....

The pattern doesn't call for any boning - the straps should hold everything up - and I am most certainly going to be wearing a bra! Mind you I note that on that pattern review Michelle sent the link for, that the lady who was having trouble with the top did add boning to hers.

I have a small quantity of nylon boning available, and a couple of pre-made thin metal ones if push comes to shove.

I hadn't planned on an interling, The cupro is quite heavy, and I bought standard dress lining for the lining.

The lining is cut to the same pattern as the top, and there is interfacing right round the neckline. The top may benefit from being fully interfaced.

Thanks for your input

Sarah
