Another Christmas gift done

For my stylin' DGD. Technically not a jacket (it's a vest), but I didn't want to create a separate page.

It's lovely Beverly. I smiled to myself at the mental picture of you matching the checks on an off print.If anyone can do it you can!

Thanks, I think she will enjoy it. The sweater will be the real gift.

It was a struggle. I did manage to get the center front and center back lined up pretty well, and the ribbon covers the worst of the CB misalignment. But the horizontal line across CF from shoulder to shoulder is off. I know, most folks would never notice it, but ... ;-}

Well, Beverly,

first, let me congratulate you to another beautiful and perfectly tailored garment.

As for 'most people won't notice' - I have been able to witness a worst-case scenario on German TV a few days ago. Anybody remember Franka Potente, the leading lady from 'Run Lola Run'? She's having a comeback in Germany in a sort of weird crime series staged in Iceland (yes, I know...). Anyway, in some scenes she's wearing this coat...

(scroll down to the third pic, the one with her headless, in that tartan-sort-of coat) This is the garment with most unaligned pattern I have ever seen outside a super-cheap-o-textile market. Currently I can't tell you at what time code you can see it best, but I include the link to the website so you can view it FFW, it's at about half of the film, I think. (It says that the clip isn't available from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. local time as it isn't suitable for underage viewers. As you can see, German TV has very strict notions about youth protection. I only wish they had equally strict notions about the protection of OCD sewists. ;-) ) :

Anyway, it makes you wonder where they got that coat from. Made by the costumes dept.? Bought in some Salvation Army thrift... I mean, of course, vintage boutique? Or bought new? Shame, shame, shame... U.

Oh, dear!!! At the very least the plaid should have been matched across the sleeve/armscye junction. Bah!

Agreed!

I do wonder who makes up the garments for pattern companies' photo shoots. Did you notice that on the picture of the Vogue pattern, the CF is mis-aligned at the hem? And for the CB, they didn't try to match vertical/horizontal stripes. Perhaps that may be why they chose to cover that seam with 1.5" ribbon. As it happens, I do like that design detail, but design options shouldn't be offered soley to cover up layout and/or cutting errors. :-O JMHO
