any value? viking serger 560

Hi everyone-- i have an old viking serger-i believe it's a 560......I had bought it used on ebay, and after a few years, it no longer worked well-skipped stitches, not making the "chain" correctly, etc. (mind you, i bought this in 2000 or so). A few years ago, i took it in to a very good sewing machine repair man, and eventually he called to tell me it's unfixable....at that time i bought a simplicity serger (quite basic, but for what i use it for, works just fine).

now, i have this old viking serger on the shelf in my closet. are there any parts worth getting off of it before i retire it to the trash/recycler??? if any of you have a need for all or part of it...please let me know!

Betsey, have you considered just spending some spare time with this machine to see if you just might get it to sew a half way decent serged seam, no matter what anyone else has said. I ask because a friend gave me an older Singer Tiny Tailor Serger that she could not get to make a good stitch. Yeah everyone I know says to not waste my time BUT I adjusted it and it sews a good serged edge on medium weight fabric. I was surprised and happy because I usually sew a seam on the regular SM and then serge it. This little machine will not cut the seam. but it does a good overcast stitch. I would not purchase one of these sergers, but it is better than not having one at all. I will still use my bigger serger most of the time, but this is just fine to use on sumerweight shorts and pants seams. Wish we lived close to each other and I would see if I might could adjust it for you. Barbara in SC

Maybe if you put all the tension settings on "3" and try adjusting it from there. Just trying to help! Barbara

Sometimes, Betsy, if you are having problems with something, just put it away; you know, "out of sight, out of mind." Then one day, several weeks/months later, and you may figure out what to do immediately. This works for me.

I could never throw away a sewing machine for any reason.
