Anyone making anything?

Seems like when anyone asks this question I am in the middle of mending or doing alterations. DH bought a Disney shirt that he loves except the hem and the sleeves are long. Today I will start on it, and finish up tomorrow. Oh, and the tan shorts ripped in the crotch so I'll see what I can do to repair them. Barbara in FL

My friend Bobbie came over today and we had a ball sewing together. She cut and sewed a beautiful paisley skirt. Rich red, greens, blue, gold and black. She didn't want to use the serger so she did it on the my Viking and I finished the seams on the serger. I got DGD'd flannels made. I'll see her tomorrow and measure and hem them. Then again may I'll have her hem them. She started Middle school this year and joined the sewing club. So why not have her sew. She is having a great time there. Right now they are making bags for paients at Albany Med Cancer Center. I'm so glad her teacher is starting the girls out making something for a good cause. She'll be 11 tomorrow, so poppa and I are going for her birthday. I had her pick out the fabric when I was there in early September, so the pants are just what she wants. Juno Still struggling with the asthma but feeling better than last week.

I can never start a new fun project until I get alterations and mending caught up. Today, I am altering several knit shirt for younger DD (and one purple one for me), using the coverstitch machine: seven shirts, six colors. One is a sage green and has a three-thread coverstitch hem. Aargh! I have one spool of thread that color. I'll use it and wind two bobbins for the needles and use a "close enough" color for the bottom thread. As soon as I get all the alterations done, I get to start on the embroidered pillowcases. Yay! :-)

I brought the flannels up to DGD. They fit well. Unfortunately she was so busy with studying for a big test and birthday celebrating she didn't have time to hem. So I measured the hem and brought them home. I'll mail them back out this weekend. Her buddies at school, decorated her locker and gave her a personal sewing kit for a gift. She was thrilled with it. One of her class projects was to make a hand puppet for a class. She did it so well and sewed well that she got 29/30 points as a grade. She is doing well at school and that makes me very happy. She's shy girl and doesn't like to have people notice her, but not when it comes to sewing. She loves that. Juno

Oh how AWESOME!!!!! Tell her I'm proud of her all the way out here in Arkansas!!! I just absolutely love to hear about young people learning and loving to sew. That's so marvelous!! It's wonderful to know that her friends know her that well and are that loving too. Good friends are an absolutely priceless gift. :)

What a great report back Juno - your sewing fits, DGD's sewing got an almost perfect grade and her friends value her and her skills. You couldn't ask for much more.

Lizzy, you can't imagine how happy I am with her progress. She's a sweet, sensitive young girl. She is loving and kind and now her friends are seeing her strengths. Her mom and dad are very outgoing people and have worried about her because of her shyness. She's growing up in a very nice way. She also skis like a little pro. That's another plus for her because she knows she's good and is beginning to accept it. If she keeps working on her sewing skills I expect to see her making her own ski clothing in a few years. I told her I had better watchout because I know she'll be good at her sewing projects and I had better improve my own skills to keep up with her.

If you think she might sew her own ski gear, take a look for Rochelle Harper's book, Sewing Outdoor Gear, which is OP.

Thanks Kay. I found it on Amazon and ordered it. I figured I can always get use out of it too. Juno
