Ah - look at this that Kate made (from a sari!):

What's RTW?

Ready to Wear - AKA what you buy at the shops.

Well, why not? ;-) Should give everyone something to talk about.

I made a couple of work colleges totally speechless when I told them I had made my outfit that I wore to the works Xmas dinner (I hasten to add it was standard evening type wear, nothing as complicated a C18th!)

In July the sun may actually dip below the horizon for an hour or so as you are past the full 24 hour sunlight period which is mid June. You should still have light from the dusk/dawn period though. Even with 24 hour daylight the sun does not carry much warmth due to the angle it makes with the northern latitudes and you may only see mid to high 60's F as the high temps. for the day.

If you get a chance to go ashore to visit the hinterland somewhere don't think about T-shirts and shorts as you will get eaten alive by the black flies which mass in huge swarms in the Arctic tundra areas. These little beasties only have a short period in which to reproduce before the winter cold returns so they make the most of the available daylight and warmth by multiplying rapidly. This means they are constantly on the look-out for the next meal and as they are blood suckers they make a bee-line for anything warm-blooded. Wear long trousers/pants and a long sleeved shirt/jacket and pack a good bug repellent. It may also be a good idea to get a wide brimmed hat with a net (designed for the job or you can make one yourself. The net is usually long enough to tuck into the top of your shirt/jacket to stop them attacking your face and ears (they love ears for some reason :-( ).

Have fun on your cruise ;-) .

But gluten-free flour *does* make "goo" bread. ;-)

Plus, if you might be allergic to black fly bites (as I discovered I was) a bottle of antihistamine tablets like Benadryl wouldn't be a bad thing to tuck in the suitcase. Sort of bizarre because the swelling doesn't occur at the bite site, but rather at the nearest lymph gland.

> Coo! Fat face! ;) That was a VERY BRIGHT wedding sari, bought in Coventry at a bargain price. Best time to look is round Devali and Eid. Oh, and this one:

It would be fun, too! ;)

I've always had excellent service from them. The more esoteric stuff I send to from the USA.>

I think the one that causes the biggest jaw drop round here is the suit I made for Alan.

The last time I went on a trip, the itinerary said we might get a chance to go swimming, so I took a linen sarong, thinking it would serve as a beach towel and a bath towel. Even though I didn't go swimming, the sarong was the handiest thing I took along -- when I went to a pre-dawn event wearing shorts, I was awfully glad I'd put the sarong in my purse.

The matching bandannas were also handy. When I found out that a low-necked shirt isn't the best idea under the tropical sun, I had something cool and light-colored to pin around my neck.

I've also gotten a lot of mileage out of my wool poncho. Since you can also use it as a pillow or blanket, an all-wool poncho in your carry-on is a good idea.

I was thinking about this in bed this morning and came to the conclusion that they must be simple round toed shoes with a strap :-)

And yes, I think I'll let him have a go, thanks.

Ah. There's so much I don't know ... :-(

Especially if Spouse wears his high heeled shoes :-)

In my experience well made clothes made at home are far better than RTW (!), you'd pay a fortune for perfectly fitting custom made clothes!

I didn't make my corset and half-coat, I confess. A friend who's a professional film costumier asked if she could do something and it would have been rude to refuse :-)

I know all that but I also know from experience that we shan't be cold during the day - and in the evening I expect we'll be in a heated area.

We were told that when we went to Iceland the first time, in July. We saw none. We looked for them on our second visit, round the solstice. We saw none.

Still, I'm always prepared for being eaten, even English greenfly find me tasty! It's the main reason I wouldn't want to go to a warm country - that and the heat.

I shall. And he's going to enjoy it whether he likes it or not!

I carry them with me at all times because I do react to bites and stings, occasionally I have a systemic reaction needing a shot of adrenalin. My local reactions are at the damaged site, a systemic one hits my whole body. I keep my right arm covered at all times because all my lymph nodes in that axilla have been removed.

I discovered systemic reactions when I kept bees for twenty five years. Glutton for punishment or what?

I think the only swimming will be on-board.

Yes, I have something similar and it's on the list :-)

There's a chap (Bob Flowerdew) who claims that he grows them in Norfolk but he has a huge garden, I'd rather grow what grows well here.

I did try to grow one a couple of years ago, following his instructions. It didn't work :-)
