Hi Emily,

I found another entry point on google groups.

Looking at the group suggested one can only assume the poster was being mean spirited. As always human nature is shown in such hostilities. Do people really have a problem with the concept of sewing clothes for the less fortunate and those who are suffering?? Why are people so mean?? Do they really enjoy it?? Or is it guilt talking.

My life has always been, and will continue to be, about helping people freely ... and that is usually by sewing. This group is about discussion of all sewing related things. Would yo be opposed to talking about making bras for breast cancer survivors if a few women related their stories and experience with breast cancer?? I'd consider requesting them to take their discussion to med.sci.cancer or whatever to be abhorent ... it's understanding and empathy that helps to motivate the sewing for the cause.

All that said, I did not raise the politics issue, but merely responded to someone's comments about what they saw on my sewing site. Perhaps they were trolling, perhaps they were expressing honest feeling, perhaps they were just arrogant I don't know. This newsgroup is so full of all sorts of spam by what seem to be a number of non- sewists that I remember why I moved away from usenet to more moderated forums. Either way, I have moved on from this thread unless someone wishes to comment on it further. I, like you, also much prefer talking about sewing, but would consider it irresponsible to hide from the injustices of the world ... what you choose to do is your decision and I both respect that and would never ask you to change ... that's up to you.

Peace

Stuart

Hi, Stuart! How's Oz?

You should be able to find a news server that carries the groups, but as my ISP has only stopped carrying binaries (which I don't use, but DH misses some of his for sharing things like aircraft drtails for modelers), I'm not sure how you go about that...

TSF booted me out for som,e reason I've never ubderstood. Posting TOO MUCH? Huh? Went past at Mach II... ;)

Clothing seems to be further down the list than basics like food and shelter, but certainly, especially in the colder war-torn areas, there is a need particularly for clothing for infants and chioldren.

You stand up for what you believe in. Me I'm on a looser with my Scots Go Home - Alba For the Picts! campaign, but it does help to put things in perspective.

Personally, I'd heap all religions in one pile, and label it USELESS, but that's just me. God's OK, but religion sucks. Meanwhile, let's clothe the kids and keep them warm, and give them some hope for the future. Ireland stopped most of their mess, and if they can, anyone can. (Just takes a cancer victim putting her wig on the table... ;) )

Faith is a gift of your God, religion is the gift of the devil!

As I've grown older the veracity of that little epigram has become more and more meaningful to me.

I noticed the somwhat heated comments elsewhere in this group about the Middle East conflict. I learned a very long time ago never to become embroiled in discussions about religion or politics.

Hi Kate

Simply beautiful ... bit humid right now but wouldn't trade it for anywhere.

I found alt.sewing on google groups.

Well that's not on ... you had some of the most useful information I ever read. I'd be happy to put myself on the line and ask that they re- instate your membership if you'd like to return. I'm sure there are others who miss you as well. Let me know in private if you wish ... you know where to find me.

Sorry but I don't know that issue ...

Like the fellow above said, faith is fine, religion is the evil. I plan to start my little clothe the world campain in the near future ... will let you know when I get there ... no idea where to start but I might go visit a few aid agencies for advice!

Glad to catch up with you again

Stuart

*chuckle* Or maybe religion is trying to hang on the coattails of someone else's faith instead of doing the work to develop your own, or something.

Kate, many here bow to you as the High Priestess of The Alt.Sewing NG, and as such, the smugness and arrogance of those statements does not become you.

Actually unbelievable; maybe someone has taken temporary control of your signature again? Or does our idol have feet of clay? JPBill

Are you suggesting our Kate is a golem?

Last time I checked her pictures she didn't appear to have glowing eyes or a flip-top head!

Apollogeese to non Sir Pterry Pratchett fans as you won't have a clue what I am waffling about!

Anyone who puts me on a pedestal deserves to get stomped on by me feets of clay. If yer wants an idol, visit a temple. Bel Amroth might be a good one...

I think of mine being more like Cohen's Din-chewers, made from troll's teef. ;)
