Bias Cut Disaster aversion therapy!

Here are some lovely pix of the dreaded bias cut bridesmaid dresses. They should have been pretty, but they look like Halloween outfits! Are they worthy of the etiquette hell site? Hit the URL below and look in Kate's Sewing Room for the How to Rescue a Bias Cut Disaster page.

There are also some pix of the 'new' treadle at work! MUCH prettier than the poor dresses, even with fat ole me spoiling the shots!

Kate, where are the pics of the 'new' treadle, I looked and didn't see it. OH, my heart goes out to you, repairing the messes of the dresses. I don't know if I would have taken on such a challenge, but you are a dear to try and knowing you, you'll succeed in making the girls look gorgeous on the big day! Emily

Look in the Sewing Room, at the bottom of the middle column - it's the Singer 15-88.

The dresses are... 'different', aren't they!

Yowza! what a mess. Even messier than the description could tell. You are the greatest, taking this on and fixing it for those girls.

Look in the Sewing Room, not the sewing projects area, and they are at the bottom of the How To Do It column on the left hand side.

Found it, thanks. Just too impatient, they didn't load right away the first two times I looked. What a sin and a shame, to mess up beautifull fabric and patterns like that! I hope the bride demands her money back.

Oh, dear! They are a bit original, aren't they? The ability to shorten the opening will help a great deal, though. Bless your heart for making the attempt!

Different is rather tounge in cheek Kate, Gross and horrific spring to mind especialy given the money already paid out on them. I hope the original maker gets hit where it hurts ...... in the adverse publicty arena. Claire.

My sister (wot sews only occasionally) said she could have done better with a stapler! I think she's right!

Well, the client got their name from C&H Fabrics, and has already told the shop not to send any more bridal customers that way! The shop apologized, but it only has a list these days, it doesn't have any other input.

LOL! Ditto to that! The white thread is an especially charming touch. That kind of sloppy work on an expensive dress is shameful.

Oh Kate!

Those are absolutely hideous!! I wish you the best of luck in fixing them....if that's even possible that is.....

Not a job that I would be looking forward to tackling.

LOL I agree, JJ. I am listed at JoAnns, but I put specificcally what I

*know* I am good at: costumes, children's clothes, women's clothes, and the occassional formal for prom. I know that I am NOT qualified for certain things, and when people have called me about sewing for them, we have discussed in detail what exactly they want. If it is something that i am uncomfortable doing, I let them knpw, as well as my reasons for being umcomfortable. Most of the time, the person thanks me, and sometimes, they even call me for other projects.

I think of the money (£250 for the fix and remaking one dress: I gave them my special price I usually reserve for colleagues in the teaching world), and the cachet if they look good! ;) Cynical? Who, moi?

Yeesh!! I think your sister could do better with a stapler and some duct tape (that fixes anything y'know) while under the influence of several glasses of her favorite adult beverage. lol I know one of my sisters could, and I don't mean the one that sews!

What an expensive **MESS**!!! I knew they were bad from reading what you said about them. But then to see the pictures....ugh!! Ohmygoodness!! I just can't get over the money that was burned on this one. If it was US$, that would be about $900 for the 3 dresses. That's not pocket change. And now, it's going to cost them even more to fix it. Brides to be are nervous creatures anyway, but she shouldn't have to go through this much nerve wracking. :(

You are a softie. And you are a sweetie. Good luck. I think if it were me, I'd try hard to talk them into letting me remake as many of them as possible. There's just no excuse for any of that "workmanship." But there is especially no excuse for them all being too small.

It's people that churn out work like that who make the rest of us look bad. *sigh*

I want to know if this bride actually paid for these dresses. Whoever took on this original project should be reimbursing her the full price and then pay what it costs to fix these atrocities. After looking at these dresses and what had been done and how obvious the incompetence was I can not believe anyone would have shelled out money to this so called 'seamstress'! As far as I am concerned anyone who actually made these things and thought they were fine enough to hand them over to the bride has no shame so posting her handiwork won't do a bit of good. That person needs to be hit in the wallet and put right out of business as far as I am concerned. I'm was livid just looking at the pictures, good thing I wasn't the bride picking up these dresses. There would have been a mushroom cloud forming over the workshop.
