birdnesting on bathing suit fabric

I'm getting birdnesting on bathing suit fabric -- I've changed to a knits needle (ball), I've rethreaded a million times and reset the bobbin. My test fabrics, though not bathing suit fabric, all sew just fine. What is it about this fabric and how can I overcome it?

Have you thoroughly cleaned the tension disks, as well as the entire thread path?

What happens when you tighten the needle tension?
