Bought the Designer SE

If you KF Taz and the other trolls, it's actually a pretty informative group. It's not nearly as active as here, but there are very nice people who will take the time to answer embroidery-specific questions. JMHO,

The site is sort of odd anyway.. I wonder if it is operated by Compucon instead of Singer.. That would explain a lot of things..

One of the things that people have been complaining about is the fact that the patches on the site are not "dated"(so you don't know if the files are older that what you have already), and specifics about which version (2.00 or 2.00a) the various patches should be used for are not really present.

Just ignore the resident USEnet troll that lives in the general area of alt.sewing.mach-embroidery...

Wishing you the best of luck with your new machines, Kirsten..

Many of us decided that most (if not all) of the many "personalities" are a single USEnet troll (along with one or two people who cannot seem to help themselves, and always respond to it)...

Just kill-filter/ ignore it.. It makes life much simplier.

Try looking in the pawn shops. You know there are a bunch of us here that like the thrift stores (I scored a Sag Harbor label 100% virgin wool, black suit last week for $12!!! The jacket is a 12 which I need to fit my shoulders if I care to wear anything under it (which I do!) The skirt is a

14 which I will cut down Drastically to fit my size 6 butt. lol Gorgeous suit. The skirt is mid-calf length with a slit up the back. The suit even still had the dry cleaner tag in the skirt.) My darling hubby's version of that is going to the pawn shops. (they have more "guy" stuff y'know.) I've gone with him a few times. I've seen laptops on more than one trip. Also if you have a local computer shop (altho those seem to be going the way of small independent fabric stores *sigh*) you may see if someone traded one in or something.

Happy hunting!!!

I have a couple of "used computer/electronics stuff" stores here, which I have used both to buy and sell stuff. I haven't been there in a while, I'll check them out.
