Box cushion zip question

Fabric to recover cushions for two sofas and a love seat has been properly aged; just washed/dried it and am planning the cutting.... Dithering about zipper placement to get maximum ability to flip cushions for even wear top/bottom, front/back. Two options at present: zipper the length of one side; lapped zipper at bottom of back extending 1 - 2" into sides, Any comments from you experts? Karen in CO

Are these almost-square cushions or very rectangular? I'd put the zip in the sides rather than the visible edge, assuming that the resulting container is large enough to cram the cushion innards into.

(Hey, this is convenient!) The couch I'm sitting on has a curved top, with two very obvious ends and one very obvious middle cushion on the back. They put the zips in the bottom of each cushion. (Inserts hand, feels around) They put the zips along the sides of the bottom cushions.

Hi, I've been lurking in this newsgroup as sewing is my business and hobby......upholstery, drapery, slipcover and antique car leather work. Your boxing at the back of your cushion and around each side, according to the depth of your cushion is where your zipper should be sewn. If your cushion is 4" deep, extend your zipper at least 4" around each back corner unto the sides. This should make for easy on and off and you can reverse your cushions without the zipper showing.
